1991 Accord "S" light flashing
I understand there is a Service Connector hanging down on the right side of a 1991 Accord glove box that can be shorted across for codes on why the tranny is skipping gears. Does anyone know what color the wires are leading to this connector and about what size this connector is? I want to be sure I'm shorting across the correct connector.
Thanks for any expertise information or ideas.

Arnold, I've been trying to send you a PM but I keep getting the message that I've used all the space I can and will have to create more space. Assuming it means I must eliminate something. Don't understand since I only have 2 messages as it is. Most Forums allow a lot of messages. Appreciate the link for cb7tuner forum but am having trouble finding more information on the '91 Hondas in the Forum. Will keep working on it though.
P.S. Is the service connector hanging down by the passenger's kick panel the green & orange wires with the small blue connector at the end? Want to be sure I short across the correct two wires.

Here is a link for the service connector from cb7tuner, but I think you are describing the right connector. Not sure about the PM limits but it should be more than 2...http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthre...vice+connector
I'm subscribed to the important threads that I see on the forum so that it will be easier for me to look for the topic if I need it in the future.

I finally got to pull the codes from the transmission on my 1991 Honda that's flashing the "S" and got a series of numbers I'm not sure what to do with since I thought I would be looking for a single number. The series of flashes that kept repeating were: 1,2,4,6,7,10,4 (but this may be 14 instead). Any idea what I have or what to do with it?
Hey thats a lot of trouble codes follow this link and it will tell u all the trouble codes. http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=2861 Was the light on the TCU also blinking while the "S" light does? Lookin at the codes there are 2 potential parts that needs to be addressed. 1 is the speed sensor and 2 the two solenoids (shift and lock up). This solenoids can be pricy depending in how you are getting it, but if Im the one fixing this I will start with the VSS(speed sensor). Come to think is your speedometer working?

Try jumping the service connector again and try to look at the light on the TCU this time and check if it will give you the same codes that you got from the S light before. It's just that it don't make sense to me that it is giving us a code for the speedometer and the VSS is working.
Will do. Nothing seems to make sense here. In the past I had to take at least one short drive and restart the engine before the S would start blinking but yesterday it started as soon as the key was turned on in the garage after setting all night. Then this afternoon I backed it out of the garage (didn't drive it) and the S never came on. Thanks for sticking with me on this stupid thing. It's always been a very reliable vehicle until now. Would really be tough if I didn't have another vehicle to get around in.
Just got back from a short drive. Just circling a few city blocks with a couple of "stop engine restart engine", no flashing S. Drove out on the highway and back a couple of miles, stopped in the driveway, turned off engine and then switch back on started the S flashing - same codes as before. Pulled carpet back where I could see the computer and I see nothing flashing. Should I be looking in the slot where the serial number 8100-PXO-822 LX is?
Put the car back in the garage for the night and all at once now before I could shut the engine off the Check Engine light comes on - steady not flashing. Turn the key back on and the Check Engine light comes back on steady again. Start the engine and the Check Engine light stays on and the S is still flashing. Will the Check Engine light if the two-wires are still connected or does this indicate something else happening?
What a mess?

Yes CEL will be on if you keep the jumper on the service connector. You should reset the ECU after jumping service connector by disconnecting the battery ground or by removing the 7.5 amp back-up fuse on the fusebox under the hood. As for the TCU light, you have to unbolt the panel under the right front floor board under the carpet and flip it over the TCU light is on the underside. You will see a penny-sized glass window. It should have a light when you jump the service connector and turn the key to the "ON" position (DON'T START THE CAR). The TCU is the smaller box.
Assume you've seen in the cb7Tuner Forum that I finally got to the TCU board and everything looks just fine. No bulging or leaking capacitors so now I'm not sure which way to turn. I know I'll have the 5 capacitors replaced that cloudasc has suggested in one of his posts but if none of them are the problem I'll be up duck creek without a paddle and will still be without my 1st and 4th gears.
9t3Akord, I can't thank you enough for putting me onto the cb7tuner Forum. From all the pictures and explanations I was able to tell which capacitors and resistors to order. After I got them it was just trying to reach the retired TV repairman who always did all my TV work to see if you would do the replacing. Finally got it all taken care of, the panel back in the Honda, and after a short drive things seem to be working and shifting just like new.
Thanks again and hope you had a great Holiday season.
Oh yes, meant to tell you after the capacitors were removed at least two of them had signs of leakage around the bottoms that was hard to see while still attached to the board.

And this is very simillar to my problem. 91 accord ex. Bought it and everything was good. Next day light is flashing and only have 2nd and 3rd gear. Inspected tcm and found a burnt resistor and a slightly leaking cap. Bought a good used one. fter installinstall now the s light is on constantly and still stuck in 2nd and 3rd gear. Going to rescan tcm to see if the codes are different from all the codes from before. Any insight would be appreciated.
My '91 LX started intermittently flashing the "S" light on the dash, usually would start after the car warmed up and was restarted the second time. Short time afterwards it started flashing everytime the key was turned on. After reading and seeing the pictures on the cb7tuner Forum, Preventative Maintenance, I ordered the 5 capacitors and two resistors shown as problem items, had my TV repairman install the capacitors (resistors checked out okay) and re-installed the board in my Honda. At least after the first 20 mile drive all seems to be working and shifting as it should.
When it first started missing 1st & 4th gears I checked for the codes and got 6 or 7 different ones when there should have been only one specific code. The Forum said either a lot of codes or none at all usually indicates a bad board so that was where I started.
Good Luck, these things can be very frustrating.

K, guys this is extremely frustrating. Got a good tcm in. Now S light is still on and doesnt flashe when i jump the connector. Tried a new battery. Now the s light goes out at idle and warm but as the rpm increases the s light gets brighter. Still stuck in limp mode.
Man, you do have a stinker there. You might try joining the cb7tuner Forum and posting your problem on it. They do have a restriction on new members that only allows you to post questions in the Beginners section till you have something like 30 posts, but I did it that way and got all kinds of information. You can still read the other sections, which I found lots of information in the Prevention and Maintenance section.
Good luck, I know how frustrating it is to have that "S" light either on or flashing. I probably spent a month hasseling with the removal of the computer, ordering the parts, and getting it repaired. I just hope there's no other radical surprises on these '91 Hondas which I certainly had no idea was there. They may be a very reliable machine but when they crap out it can be a major and expensive problem.
