Default 98' Torneo SIR-T .. VTech and F20b questions ...

So I got a stock Honda Torneo SIR-T with F20b. It needed some panel work that's now done and I find myself in a bit of a dillema.

The VTech works wonderfully while on the road (no thrashing it took long enough to find a stock SIR-T from a trusted source) but from a stop start occasionally it will exhume plumes of thin grey smoke. Nothing thick just a colour change that a friend of mine noticed when I was showing off the 'new' wheels. This only happens when engaging the Vtech from a stop (I'm guessing while its moving its harder to notice) and am wondering if this is a problem?

Also, the entire car is STOCK and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on quality improvements to get the f20b engine to squeeze out a little more performance? (trying to stay away from anything that will take it off the road for long periods (more than a weekend) at a time. Think 'assisting performance' with affordable upgrades.

vtec engines are known to burn a little oil in vtec. if it's not constantly smoking i wouldnt worry about it too much. you can do a leakdown and compression test to help determine the health of the engine.

looks like there werent too many torneo sir-t's produced, nice find. the f20b is similar to the h22. you can do the typical intake, header, exhaust in your driveway in a weekend. anything more than that, well that would depend on your level of mechanical knowledge.

Awesome you've taken a load off my mind.

Anywhere I can find information about brands and parts that will fit on an f20b? I have read in several places that the the f20b is a de-stroked h22 of sorts but I don't want to race off buying parts that won't fit. Especially if I have to order them.

And any brand help would be primo.

As for skill of the mechanic ... mechanic is me (with access to tools that are necessary) and a new interest in being able to fix, upgrade and modify my own wheels. Curiosity.

I had a SiR-T years ago. As was said earlier H22 parts are exact match mostly.

Meaningful performance upgrades are:
Intake - AEM Cold Air Intake for same year prelude.

Header - Hytech replica header, i can source this for you.

Throttle Body - Stock uses 62mm, it's best to upgrade to 70mm unit for best intake performance.

Exhaust - 2.5 inch minimum free flowing system,3 inch is most ideal. You will have to order this straight from Japan. 5Zigen makes a very nice unit, I had this on my car.

Neptune ECU or Hondata - You will need to optimize your fuel and ignition timing for the modifications added as well as the available fuel in your area. I can source these for you too. I'm a Neptune Dealer.

25 - 35 horsepower to the wheels can be easily added with these modifications.

Thank you for the information, that is exactly what I am after. The car itself is in need of some minor work here and there; so everything will be done over the next year or two as I learn more and more but this is definitely the starting points I'm looking for. It's my run around daily and soon to be hobby.

You both have been a great help; no doubt I'll be back after I've blown something up to ask how to fix it.
