Icon2 B18b won't rev past 3500rpm

Hey guys,

I Don't really know much about cars, but I'm hoping you guys will be able to help me out. I've been searching online about cars not reving past 3500 rpm but most of them display signs of the check engine light. I don't seem to have that problem with my car at the moment. The previous owner did take out the cat, and I asked the guy from Canadian tire and he says that could most likely be the problem. I was wondering what other problems might exist? The 1995 civic was swapped out for a b18 engine.

I really appreciate it guys!

Hey thanks for the reply, so you think it has nothing to do with the senors or anything right since the "engine lights" didn't come on? I'll go check the wires first!

I can steer you in the right direction on this, its either your timing is off or your ecu could be in limp mode.

...It's possible that he took off the engine light bulb or hid the problem just so he can sell it to you without any alarming factors. Plug in a scanner anyways, regardless of the CEL or lack of.

^ turn the car to acc. and see if your cel comes on for a second. My father caught somebody who did that and ran a scanner through the car. He found many codes being thrown.

^ this. What kind of motor is it? You also got to keep into account the swap may have been mismatched with wiring harnesses, or ECU's or the ECU is just bad. Could be many things.

KK, i'll have to take a closer look at the engine light but I'd figured that it was odd that the light wasn't on. The "ECU" is found in the fuse box located near the battery right? I did put the car back up on Craigslist but the info of the car is on the link maybe you guys can determine the mods that he put in it might be the problem.

what that also cause my to have difficulty starting my car because I thought it was the faulty battery but when I took it out and brought it to a mechanic to have them use a multi meter it red 12.0v or whatever and he told me it it was still good and could possibly use a charge it you like.

The ECU is under the passenger side kick panel, not under the hood. You also skipped a rather important question - Does the CEL come on for ~3 seconds when you turn the key to ON(II)?

The ECU should be a P61 I believe, check the tag on it. However, the owner did mention it was tuned, so it could have been even modified further. The ECU is locate under the right side of the dashboard in the passenger kick panel. Oh man oh man you shouldn't have bought this headache, pay attention to Honda-Tech and you'll be guided correctly. The CEL should flash when you insert the key into the 2nd click (accessory).

Is its the distributor I doubt cap, rotor plugs and wires will fix it. More than likely its one of the sensors inside that's shot and you'd have to replace the whole thing, but confirm if your check engine light works first.

For your battery if it only reads 12v it's probably bad or needs to be charged but it shooed be at least 12.4 or more.

Hey thank goodness the CEL light did come on! A neighbor popped by when I was doing an oil change, and I explained to him of the problem he suggested that it may have been the fuel compression or whatever.

I plan to take it into Evolution to have them take a look at it, but if its an easy fix i'd prefer not to spend a lot of money for minor fixes

The Codes Thread: How To Pull CEL,D4, SRS, and ABS Codes (with Codes Lists)

Pull the code and post it already. It will take you less than 5 minutes to do so. Stop guessing, and stop asking people to guess. You've now successfully wasted two days that could have been used actually fixing your car.

Sorry man, I don't have a code scanner. I don't mean to be wasting anyone's time... I'll see if Canadian tire has a scanner if anything I could just bring it into a shop.

Hey guys, I tried jumping the connector with a paper clip, but I am getting no response for the codes also the CEL doesn't remain steady. I know that my CEL works because when I turn it on (II) the CEL appears.

I had the same problem with my teg, tryed everything (dizzy, different ecu, different wire harness, injectors, plugs/wires, battery, checked codes, made shur it had spark and fuel) even put my ecu in my buddies car n it ran fine. come to find out only 17psi on fuel pressure.. so could possibly be the fuel pump.
