First off, if this has been addressed before please kindly add a link or shop name. I must not be hitting the right search key words.
I own a 96 Accord wagon LX which had a stock F non vtec motor. I NOW have a H23A JDM Blue top motor in it and running.
THE CAR WAS AND IS AUTOMATIC. (It will not be switched to Manual Ever, due to bad knee.... Military)
So problem is like every other post I found, I have my stock ECU installed being that its an OBD2A. The one that came with my swap was an OBD2B ecu and I believe with an immobilizer (please correct me if im wrong on that) either way shifting was wayyyy off so stock was my only running choice.
does anyone know any way around working this? or have a ECU with a possible harness for sale that I could purchase or get made from a reputable person? I honestly have no clue when it comes to wires and such so I'd rather have someone that knows what they are doing help me out..
Did honda ever make a H23A 96-98 (OBD2A) bluetop in automatic? If so what would the ECU be named? I've read and heard that it does exsist but unfortanatly no one knows what its called which leads me to beleive that it does NOTexsist tho I hope Im wrong.
Any suggestions on any other OBD2A ecu that may work automatic?
I spoke with Rywire yesterday they said they could TRY and make a harness for me but its no guarantee that they can make it plus its pricey.
Im trying get some kind of plug and play setup. But I do realize that I may have to go a chipped P28 OBD1 route. I just want to exhaust all my options before I head that route.
I live in San Diego/orange county area but am willing to drive to get this fixed just as long as the person is confident they know what they are doing even if P28 is what you KNOW you can do...

'96 Prelude ECUs are OBD2A and don't have an immobilizer. Only '96 ECUs lack the immobilizer! They're kind of rare because of that. Is it a Vtec bluetop or non-vtec? Honda made a USDM H23 non-vtec, but I'm not sure if they were available as an automatic or not. And even if they were the transmission may have been different than what you have. USDM ECU code assuming non-vtev H23 is P14. Also, if you live in CA and need to get this smogged it needs to be a USDM ECU, a JDM ECU will not connect with a scan tool and will not pass smog (besides failing the visual inspection)
Also not an option for a couple of reasons: It wont pass smog, and a Prelude/Accord generally uses a separate TCM that plugs into the ECU, A P28 wont have the 4th plug for it as the automatic P28s have an integrated TCM.
There is a reason why 99% of swapped Hondas have a manual trans in them, it's usually next to impossible to do a swap like this and have everything work and pass smog.

I have the blue top with vtec. I live in Cali but pretty much assumed right off the bat when I was going the swap route that I would NOT be able to pass smog I'm ok with that. I'm looking into the automatic Jdm 96 prelude p5m which is obd2a with no immobilizer. I just want the car to shift normally and still hit vtec. I wish I could have it manual but with this bum knee I couldn't endure the pain. Well at least with what the VA pays me for disability I could at least try and fund a way around this..
Any insight on the Auto P5m? It looks promising.
