Default anyone else's 9005 bulbs going out?

I don't know if this has already been discussed, but ever since I've done the 9005 Conversion with the Syl Silverstars, I have continuously had the bulbs go out on me every three to four months. I've already replaced three of them. I'm getting tired of spending $25 everytime a bulb goes out. Anyone else having this same problem? I think I'm just going back to stock bulbs...

I bought those crap nokya bulbs and done the 9005 conversion, one of them exploded and the other bubbled, so i took them out and went back to stock, (also converted) they've been fine for the last 6 months, but i dont know how long they'll last (theyre the original factory bulbs - so theyre 8 years old!!)

My Sylvania Silverstars (9005) have been intack for 4 months.

Do BOTH of yours go out at the same time, or is one more prone to go out?

you should clean them with alcohol before putting them in...youre not supposed to touch them with you hands because of the oil on our hands...my cool blues are fine after a few months...

but back on topic...the fuse isnt going or the harness?? just the bulb itself dies??...

im not sure about this but i believe that bulbs like that are not suppose to be touched by bare hands. this causes oils from our skin to get to them abd causing them to explode. something happend like that happend to me before but it wasnt with silverstar.

try using gloves.
Well, any idiot with a basic knowledge of cars can tell you that (I hope that didn't sound too harsh ) but yeah, I was really careful not to touch the bulb.

They only go out one at a time. My left side has gone out twice and my right, once. I think the fuses are fine, because I just put in my stock ones in last night and they work fine.

the main problem with all those cheap bulbs is they sacrifice lifespan for output, PLUS they get hotter because of the resistive blue coating....

I didn't think the sylvanias were prone to the same problem as they were designed for it $25 every time DOES suck, see if theres any info about what their usual lifespan is (9-12 mos?)

Now this is very interesting info.

I had Silverstars, as well, and my driver side bulb burned out after only 4 months. No exploding, no bubbling, no marks on the bulb, nothing except the filament just had a tiny break in one spot. That sucks to learn this is a common occurence.

I have had 9005 Cool Blues for well over a year now (about 8 months before putting the SS's in, and put them back in after the SS burned out). Not a single problem w/ the Cool Blue bulbs yet.

how are the cool blues output compared to the Silverstar's (9005 conversion)? Would it matter if i just went for the cool blues or should i just spend the extra loot to get the silverstars?

Plain clear 9005's, Cool Blue 9005's, Silverstar 9005's, it doesn't matter really. You will get about the same amount of light output with any of these, the only difference will be the color of the light.

*edit* I have tried all 3 already. SS looks best, but CB is best for the money IMHO.

Default Sylvania SilverStar 9005: burned out.

I have had 9005 Silvania Silverstars in my low beams for about 8 months now. Passenger side one went out last night. (the filament burned out).

Seems these bulbs have a short lifespan.

A couple notes:
1)I drive with my headlights ON all the time. So this was 8 months of continuous use.
2) I just moved back to a humid climate and it's been raining the past couple of days here. That probably doesn't have anything to do with it, but it's worth noting.

I've had both SS's go out on me, one in 6 months and one in 8 months. I'm back to stock. I loved the output and color the SS's put out, but for 25 bucks a pop every 6-8 months, no thanks.

9005 silverstars lasted 11 months and a few days, and passenger side burned out. Just replaced it with a GE 9005 blue stuff from walmart ($20-$25 2 bulb pack?). The other side is still silverstar. I don't even care anymore, its just a light bulb.... as long and the road is lit up nicely for me. Output seems the same between the 2, GE actually seems a little brighter. The silverstar actually seems to be more silverish in color thats all.

i had that prob with cheaper bulbs, i dont knwo about silverstars though never had em , i had my PIAA's for like 4 years now and from car to car and still look great . also a thing to think about it one time i had a surge supressor on my battery that helped , i was told becuase of high power stereo's and voltage spikes might cause them to blow. . . something to think about . . i got it , it was only $7 or so , so worth a try.

I've had my SS for 5 months now. But most people report they last about a yr. max. Oh well, when they go that will just give me a reason to go HID...

I've got SUCKER stamped on my forehead.

Just bought another set of silverstars with the $10 rebate from sylvania's web site. $30 isn't too bad for two bulbs I guess. ($19.99 each at Advance Auto Parts)

I do appreciate the output from these bulbs. Especially with all the deer around here at night.

Does anyone use just the 9006 silverstars on their cars? How do they compare to the 9005's? I ran 9005 cool blues on my last teg for a few months of it's life and they did awesome until I wrecked it. Loved the color and brightness they put out. My girlfriend would always comment on how nice they were. I think i'm gonna pick up a set of 9005 cool blues once my return check comes in. But yea, who has actually used 9006 Silver stars, any comments compared to 9005's?
