I can push the cruise control button but the light does not come on and the cruise control does not work. Is this most likely the cruise control main switch or control unit? This is a manual trans if that matters.

 

Have you checked the fuse for the cruise control?

 

I find mine doesn't "take" right away on cold mornings and I have to hold the button for a bit before it's activated.

 

I have checked the fuse and the button and they both appear to be ok.... I quess it must be the control unit.

How did you test the switch? What was the voltage on the BLK/RED wire with the key on?

 

Using the black wire as the ground, the next wire over has 11/12 depending on whether the cruise switch in on or off. The next wire over has 11/12 all the time. The far right 2 red wires I can not get any voltage. This was all done with the car running.

 

Main switch is ok, if I'm following your description.

Next, check the brake light switch....also since this is a manual trans, be sure the "plug" on the clutch pedal - lower - is in place.

 

Bought a new one today and it made no difference
