This is a review of the rare optional ashtray for the 96-00 civic. It’s where your 12v outlet is, between the cupholders and the radio. The installation was pretty simple, just time consuming and tedious. You have to remove your armrest, then cupholders, and drop the glove box and driver side column. It’s just 4 bolts holding the optional ashtray part of the center console.





Here comes the part ya are waiting for, the actual review. The ashtray opens and can hold quite a bit of whatever you want. Instead of it popping out like other cars I’m used to, it pops down. What I didn’t like was that it took up so much room vertically that it was honestly impossible for me to hold any drinks in my cupholders, whether it be the 96-98 cupholders or my ek4 cupholders. They look nice though, makes the civic look at least a BIT more luxurious, but to me they’re not practical for the regular DD that goes to fast food drive thrus, and gets thirsty.





In the end, I ended up selling the optional ashtray and going back to the original one. I’m assuming if this one interferes with the cupholders, then the Acura EL aka Honda Domani would be the same way with it’s center console.
