Just bought my first acura... cant decide what to do!
Hey honda tech , Ive been lurking the fourms for a good bit now and reading up on alot of different topics. For the past year i have been wanting to get into the honda game just never knew where to start off. Last week I found one on CL , it happend to be a 95 ls 5 spd , so he says the swaped b18b1 has 80kish with a gsr trans with around the same.
The only catch was that he got side swiped. I went to take a look at it , he didn't get side swiped he hit a tree going around a corner. We took it for a ride , drove alright with a little rubbing on the rear tire. The engine checked out to be in good condition , i figured what the heck ill buy it. I know some people will jump on me for paying $1500 for it , thus being my first ever Honda i wanted something running completely and all put together instead of in pieces. I figured the stuff that came with the acura i come part it out / scrap it and make my money back beside just motor/trans .
here is/was my plan ... my plan was to do a complete rebuild on the b18 (scrap/ part out the acura) and than put it into a hatch down the road . Than i started thinking why not try and fix the Acura ( needs QT panel) since I got it kinda cheap and beef up the motor and make it my DD. Than find a hatch project.
This sounds pretty gay , but my downfall for a project like this is basically i need someone next to me when whenever i have a question about somthing or to double check the right way going about it . I need some help from you guys on what i should do for a somewhat beginner ...I don't have years of experience like some yet i know enough to get it in trouble. i have a nice shop to work at , paint booth and all that i just need the guidance lol.

i looked at all the tires before i bought it , must of forgot / didnt see this on the inner tire , worn down by the kamber i was gonna drive it to my dads shop today but this got me thinking alot about the whole situation.

i would part the car out, pull the motor, look for another integra or a nice little 92 civic hatchback and swap it. a simple motor swap is good experience for a noobie. you have some work ahead of u. parting out the car wont be quick either then finding another car to put the motor in..idk i would have not bought it...

buy a helms manual book for your model/year. helps out a lot and its only about $10-$14

I agree. Part it out but keep the complete engine swap so you can find a shell that has no damage and put that engine into the car. 1500 isn't so bad because you can get some of that money back for parting it out. Body/frame damage is a no no.
I agree with the first 2 comments. i had a 95 Civic . Bought the car.. felt the car funny.. and the frame was crooked .. didn't know because they never reported the accident to the insurance or DMV.. sold the car..
You are probably opening up a can of worms trying to fix that properly. Like others have already said...part it out, but keep the swap to throw into another vehicle. You should be able to make a decent bit of your money back by parting it out, it may just take a while.
People here are more than willing to help you out or yell at you if your doing something wrong so guidance you've got plenty of. Just try to cross reference anything you read or are told, most people mean well, but some just don't have knowledge to back up what they are saying, so cross referencing is a good way to make sure your being given accurate info.
Good luck with the project(s) present and future.

Got to agree with most of the above, part it out, keep the engine and transmission, maybe the disk brakes for that Civic that comes with drums on the back, or find an Integra without an engine and trans. or blown engine.
I would much rarther find a car that has a body in mint shape then an engine in mint shape witha bad body. 94

That would actually be a nice little job for a bodyman by the looks of it. Simple quarter replacement, replace or reskin door, no filler, the color is even easy to match, you could get away without doing any blends if you wanted to... I could make money off that car!

The quater panel for that car is $500-$600, [depending on where you get it] and a fair amount of work to replace, not doable without the proper tools.
The door skin is $260-$360, also not so easy to replace, would be easier and cheaper to just get one from a bone yard, [PicknPull].
Although I agree it could be a good project for a body guy with the tools to do the job, but money to be made I am not so sure, $1500 for the car, another $1000 in parts, work and paint, it's a 95 LS with non matching numbers, [swapped engine and transmission], what's it going to be worth? 94
Counter point. I would leave the car as it. You paid $1500 for it. The only thing I would fix is the rear window and the wheel rub.
At this price, I would wear the body damage like a badge of honor. Again, you paid $1500. Drive it. Track it. Enjoy it.
(This is not an offer) If the car drives fine, I would buy it.

thanks for the help guys , i really appreciate it. But i think im just gonna repair it , i have all the tools and a paint-booth so thats not the problem .My main Problem was experience but i got a bodyman that works for my dad that'll show me what/ how to do. But with the frame/ unibody.... if it drives straight and what not it should be alright ?? ... i havent got it up in the air yet to see for damage on the under side but it drives fine no real rubbing , but a little scraping on the tire when i hit a bump. the whole main damage is on the quarter panel , whats the pillar? is that the where the window and door match up ? BTW the door closes fine it'll need some bondo but ill just blend that in.
thanks james
thanks james
If the door closes OK it is unlikely there is any damage to the B pillar, and if the B pillar is OK it is also unlikely that the frame, [uni-body] is out of alighment. 94
Maybe for a body shop, my guess is, by thew looks of it, the pass. side B pillar is bent, it also looks like the rocker panel took a pretty good hit.

I didn't realize a skin for an integra was that much. The method we used was to grind through the edges of the door skin, zip off the glued on remaining inner edge with a air chisel, and then drill out the spot welds (usually 2 or 3). We were able to have panels off in about 15 min. But as you stated at that cost it would not be justifiable. I have found doors on clist as low as $60
My real intent was to just point out to people like Op who wish to learn the trade that a job like this assuming there's no hidden damage isn't as scary as it seems.
