I have a 1995 Accord EX Sedan with a Manual Transmission. For the past few weeks there are times when the speedometer and odometer are not working. They may be okay for my 14-mile trip to work and then when I leave work they will not be working for several miles. Any suggestions?

 

When it stops working, try setting the cruise control (assuming it works?).

Have you checked for codes?

It is either the vss or the speedo.....trying to narrow it down.

 

I also have a speedometer problem with my (new to me) honda accord 6 cyl. I bought the accord at an auction yesterdayduring a rain storm and after a few miles the speedometer cut out. The odometer still woked. After I had driven out of the rain the speedometer began functioning. the cruise control doesnt work while the speedometer is out. I have yet to get any manuals other than the owners. Sugestions as to which manuals will serve me best as i settle into this car wil help.

 

If the cruise control stops working at the same time it's the speed sensor. If cruise control still works it's either a wiring issue or the cluster is bad.

 

After my last post I have determined that the fault lies in the area of the vss, variable speed sensor, output. Sporadic output caused the check enginr light to come on. A tech. examining the car determined that the fault lay in this area and recomended replacing the sensor. Since then the check engine light has remained off. I am supposing that it is probably the connection that is at fault as the problem has cleared,at least for now.

 

Mine did the same thing. Changed the VSS still did it. These years of accords the inside control panels of the gauge cluster go faulty. I took mine out and to a speedo shop and had it repaired for $110. No problems since.

 

Had an issue where the speedo would be intermittant on my 98, but the odometer still worked. I pulled the cluster and reflowed all the solder joints on the circuit board for the speedo, haven't had an issue since, this was about 2 years ago.
