My car has 134K miles on it, do I need to get the timing belt changed? What needs to be serviced on it at this time? Trying to figure out what it needs and when. Havent had many problems with it. about to replace the brake pads and resurface the rotors. the only issue it has is when its cold outside, when i start it it will make a loud whining/humming noise, but will diminish as the car heats up. took it in to the dealer when it first started happening and they said it was the power steering. they 'fixed it', but it still makes the noise.

suggestions on what to change and when, and what is a fair price for the service.

dealer said timing belt change would be 1495 (eek)

any info is appreciated. thanks!

You can do better than 1500 for a t-belt change, my local dealer quoted me about a grand. I did it myself for about $200 for parts, and a day in the garage.

When you have it changed, do the entire "kit", all the bearings, tensioner, water pump, etc.

Plugs should be replaced as well if they haven't been.

Plugs, timing belt, coolant, transmission fluid, and have you checked the air filters (cabin and engine)?. That's all I can think of right now. Look up what is needed in the owner's manual. If you don't have an owner's manual, you can log on to Honda owner's link, and get the owner's manual information there. The inlet hose o-ring, for the power steering pump, is notorious for leaking air into the system, and causing a moan/whine noise when the engine is cold (cheap easy fix).

Wow, your dealer is high. I thought we were pricey, we get $960 parts and labor for a V-6 T belt job. I checked with our local competition, and they range from $900 to $1500 for just the belt/water pump change. If you have a smart phone, get the app "Repair Pal" to find what your local shops charge. Changing a t-belt is not a job for everyone, but it is not brain surgery either. Earlier poster was correct, do the cam/crank seals, water pump and check the tensioners....you do not want to do the job twice. Get new spark plugs also. Should be good for another 100k
