Default 1993 EX Honda engine Swap to 1994 VTEC

I have been trying to help my son get his honda running. After many setbacks, and looking at the oil pan after pulling the tranny, found out that a main bearing was starting to go, and then decided to swap out the engine.

This is where I started to learn way more than I wanted to about the differences of the 1993 EX and the 1994 EX w.V-Tech engines.

Well, finally getting close with all the changes and wiring that had to be done to get this engine in the car. (this was the only engine at the junk yard with less than 225K -250K miles on it. Maybe should have looked longer and would have had it running by now) Live and learn.

currently, I have the 5-spd manual that came from the 1993 in the car, and everything looked great while out on the stand and hanging on the engine hoist. But now, after it's all in the car, the engine doesn't seem to want to turn over. After everything I've read, I can't remember between this and my nephews toyota truck I was helping him with last month about some details of a bolt maybe being too long and causing a problem.

I don't think that is the case though. I have worked on cars for a long time, and do all my own work.

Can anyone think of when the motor (after the tranny is bolted up) that is would bind up? It seems as though the clutch maybe is bound up inside the bell housing of the tranny. I am going to try to take off the tranny mount tomorrow and loosen the bolts and slide the tranny off a 1/4" or so and see if I can turn the flywheel.

thanks for any suggestions or compatibility problems you might be aware of.

Kevin

feel good for helping your son with his car and teaching him. I didnt get much of that.
first thing you both must learn is there is no H in VTEC.
I have been told 1994 engines had a 1mm larger valve by factory mistake. cant confirm.
Honda engines and transmissions have alpha numeric codes. F22B2 F22B1. Hondas are wildly interchangeable. which ones are you going from and to?

Yes, I know I should have looked up the VTEC before posting so late and forgetting the spelling.

The engine that was in the 1993 EX was the F22A6.
The engine being put into the car is the F22B1 from a 1994 EX accord.
Transmission came from the 1993 car.

It seems that now the engine is mechanically locked up and I can't turn the engine over. I am in the process of backing out the tranny bolts to get a 1/4" gap or so to see if it will turn over. everything turned fine without the tranny in place while I did the timing belts and the other components, and it didn't come to mind to try and turn the engine over after bolting up the tranny.
