Hopefully I can get an answer to my questions. I need to replace the tranny in my moms 98 awd crv. I spoke with honda and was told the 97-98 tranny has the same part #'s but 99-01 is different so look for one in those years. The problem I've ran into is .... when looking to buy a tranny online from an importer they list it for 97-01. None of the companies I called can tell me what year the tranny is from. I looked for the barcode sticker on her tranny case but it's not there so I can't just match up the numbers with whatever one I'm looking to buy. I was also told by one importer that there is a cable and electronic shift transmission so make sure I'm getting the correct one also. So can anyone confirm that I can use any auto awd tranny from 97-01 or do I need specifically a 97-98 tranny? Heck if anyone has a 97-98 crv with the code sticker still on it could you just give me the the 4 letter code off it.

Until I can confirm 100% that it'll work it's not going to do me any good. Once I know I will be interested.
They are the same the only difference is the overdrive option on the 99-01 . We installed a 97 tranny on my friends 2000 crv . No problems at all ..shifts smooth . He's is also auto 4wd

Cool thanks for the info. Do you know anything about this cable or electronic shift stuff I'm hearing about? I was told to look at the throttle body and if there is another cable besides the throttle cable then it's cable shift.
