Tire suggestions
Ok i am noob whn it comes to performance tires. However i do work in a national tire/auto shop chain, so not new to brands and what have you.
So here is my dilemma. I just got a set of 15" ssr's w/R1R tires that ride like crap, like new tread (5/32), and i did try and rebalance them (they did zero out). Anyway i want to find some new tires for them.
I am mainly looking for a summer performance tire w/ some wet traction. I have been looking in our database, and tire rack's. i really would like to find a tire that wont wear out in 8-10k miles. Yes car is/always stays in alignment. I know he r1r's are a 140 tread rating and then a few in the 180 range but then seems to jump to 300+ tread rating. I kinda want something that is between them
Info on setup: eg hatch, pic coils, 15x7 wheels. I grandma drive 99% of the time but want something that will be give loads of grip if i have need. I DO NOT LAUNCH/DRAG 1 bit.
So anyone got a good suggestion for a tires?
The main ones i have been looking at are:
Sumo HTR po1's (not high on list)
Yoko s-drives
Bfg ss a/s
And a few others but open to suggestions

a) 5/32 is NOT like new tread. A tire becomes ineffective at any type of dispersement ( i.e. water) at 4/32.
When you say TON of grip do you mean "trackable if i so choose" ? if so falken makes a 615 in a 205/50/15. KILLER tire but terrible on mileage and not the most fun when wet ( figure about 6500-7k mileage; but a BLAST on freeway ramps).
if you want something a bit more daily driveable; falken also has the 912 in the same size. It falls into their "high performance all season" category; but is a great all around tire and good for around 40k with correct camber.
If you're not afraid to spend a few bucks more; continental makes a few great tires like the PROCONTACT in a 195/65/15 as well.

^ ok thanks for the info. And not to sounds "dick ish" R1R's only come with 8/32 NEW.
I will look into the cont contact, and the 912 ( think had before).
Deff looking for something more street able but if i have want to push handling some there will be good amount of grip.

The all season capable tires would get around 40K miles on average, but would not be quite as sticky as the Yoko's (expected life 25K miles for reference)
If the car does not see any track time, the all season tires should give you plenty of grip to handle well on the street
