Default Heater doesn't get hot

I'm praying its not the heater core. The its a 94LS with GSR motor swap. The heater just doesn't heat up. I know the car is at temp. Fan works, switch seems to be working (significant difference from cold to hot). but its still blowing luke warm.

Thoughts?

Did it work after the swap?

Have you checked the valve operation on the firewall? Sometimes that cable needs to be adjusted.

How is the coolant level? Does it blow hotter when accelerating hard?

Ditto the above, check the water valve, make sure it opens all the way. 94

Right, uumm, I'll try to go find the Valve.

I think it gets a little Hotter when i'm accelerating... yes.

The Timing belt was just changed 2 weeks ago as well as the water pump.

(I haven't had it long enough to know if it was hot before the swap or if the belt change made a difference)

check the inlet and outlet hose temp at the heater core. you can do this by feel, if you're sensitive enough. heater on blast, outlet should be cooler than inlet, as the heat is transferred through the core. if temp is the same, core is plugged. if core is plugged, you can try backflushing as a last ditch effort. flush through the outlet and out the inlet. sometimes you can get some of the crap out.

as mentioned though, check the heater valve operation first. make sure the valve isn't stuck, or cable broken/maladjusted.

one question; what is the coolant temp though? engine isn't overcooling, is it?

So.

I messed with the valve thing, must not be functioning correctly because it seems to go to way but not make a difference when i adjust the controls in the car. So, I pushed it to what I think is 'open' and heater gets Hot!

Sounds like I should replace that valve? What if I don't car won't heat up properly?

I'd check the cable first. It could be broken or disconnected at HVAC control. It is only clipped to the control panel.

No, you should be able to reach the cable from the passenger side foot well. Get a flashlight and move the temperature control while looking behind the console for movement.

I thought that the AC on my 97 GSR was giving up this summer. It terned out that the heater cable position was not allowing for the coolant valve to close the entire way. I adjusted the cable position in the clip and was blowing ice cubes again.
