my 2001 honda accord is having a shifter problem i have a had time pushing in button on shifter an getting it to shift to drive an after that to shift back to park wont go past nutral. its like it locks. an also it chuggs when i hit 3000 rpms. plz help

do you have any check engine lights or flashing d4?

what year and model is your Honda?

 

Could be your shift solenoid...

 

it is a 2001 and yes the engine light is on

 

just bought the car on the 5th.

 

also have srs light on an been told it smells like it burns rich also there is black stuff on my bumper from muffler

 

go to autozone and get the codes checked.report back.
sounds like the shift lock mechanism in the shifter is getting stuck.probably from a spilt drink over the console.

 

AutoZone doesn't check codes anymore due to a lawsuit IN CALIFORNIA. You're going to need to find a friend that has a OBD scanner to get that code checked (or a mechanic).

 

Since when? Just came back from there an hour ago and they were reading someones codes....

u need to find someone to scan it first to see what codes its reading. that should be your first concern. once the codes are fixed and if you still have problems then we can start with other things. but the codes have to be fixed first.

2001 honda accord stick shift hard to move like lock is on button hard too. got stuck when i was in drive went to put in park would not go past neutral. then the second time it happend i couldnt get it to move from park to drive. put key in the lock to unlock was not the issue,
