Default Concerns with Performance Mods on Base Auto

I was looking to upgrade some things on my base rsx which is auto. I was thinking of putting on a aem intake and a cat-back exhaust and get an ecu tune, but I am just concerned if the car will be able to handle it. I have heard from others that putting that additional power into your automatic will be bad for your transmission and cause its lifespan to drastically reduce. Is this true? If so, is there steps that can be taken to not have your auto tranny negatively affected? Thanks

Don't waste your money, if you wanted a honda/acura to mod for performance you should have bought a stick-shift.

you'd be lucky to get an extra 10-15hp from those mods. i dont think that's enough to catastrophically affect the auto trans.

Here you go:
http://www.hondata.com/reflash_rsx_auto.html

If you think $295 for the ECU reflash, $600 to $1000 for headers + exhaust and another $200 to $300 for an intake is worth the extra 10 hp and 10 lbs of torque, then go right ahead.

Still doesn't answer his question....

No the extra power will not hurt your tranny. If you would make an extra 100 hp then I would look in too it but really you have nothing to worry about.

Yeah I wouldn't be worried about the trans. That will all depend on YOUR driving and how much you beat on your ride. Also maintenance and etc.

If you want some performance I would still do those mods listed which will just help the engine breathe better. Maybe look into a wet shot of nitrous. One of my friends with an LS auto integra had me instal some for him and it's held up for 4-5 years now. Just a small wet 50hp shot. Good stuff.

^Agreed. Even if it's not a substantial gain from the parts at least you do get some kind of increase in power. You can always add in a supercharger later to boost the numbers.

rich bro... I also had a friend that did nitrous and was satisfied, just buy the right amount... and if you decide to do the i/h/e with the reflash, I'd say go for it... but be patient and smart.. ask around, make new friends... just try to find the best deal for your parts, most of the parts I bought weren't at retail price, I just went straight to the distributor
