Default Slow boys ej8 build. Built gsr, Turbo. Slow progress.

Hello all,

Before i get started ill just say that this is my first honda build. I am fimiliar with fords, i was a line tech for them for 5 years. I have a built powerstroke and a blown 347 foxbody. Please be patient as i have just jumped into this whole honda thing a few months ago.

So anyway, I purchased a 99 coupe about 2 months back for around 3k. Car is clean for its age. I finished up a project for my dad and got it out of the shop. I pulled the honda in this last friday and pulled the interior out, aswell as the motor/trans.

I have very loose plans as of now which are..

stock B18c1 from hmo which will be torn down. I will have the block sleeved. Forged pistons and rods. New bearings, headstuds etc etc..

Most likely will order a lsd trans when purchasing motor unless i am advised to go in a different direction. Stronger clutch and new flywheel etc.

Havent decided on a fuel system yet, but will most likely use a s300 to tune.

The interior will stay gutted, two seats half carpet and will most likely keep a radio all else is out and for sale.

Rear disk conversion and i will also freshen up the front brakes.

Havent researched much in the line of suspension but im sure i will get some good advice.

Obviously there is much to be done yet, but i will be more in detail as i start ordering parts and making more decisions. As for power goals im am looking for 500+ whp. This is purely going to be a weekend/track car and something for me to toy around in. As of now i think i will run a top mount 6266 from go autoworks.

I dont think i can post pics untill i hit 5 posts so im sure by the end of the day i will have some up.

Any advice is welcome!

Sounds like a good plan. As far as suspension koni with ground control, amr, stay away from skunk2 etc

Nice garage man, build sounds good and you should definitely get a LSD trans. As far as suspension I had luck with tockico aluminas, koni yellows with ground controls, and even KYB AGX with H&R springs, but If you have the money I highly recommend AMR custom suspension.

Thank you, the shop was a project in itself. Took about a year to get it this far. Insulated the walls and ceiling, panted the floor, did the walls etc. I did the electric myself too. Its nice having my tools home now, i dont turn wrenches for a living anymore. Atleast not right now.

I had a bit of a break in the insanity today, and checked out full race's trac bar and half rad setup. Seems like a very nice setup.

I will look into this.

Also, i was thinking about P/s and if i should keep it or not. Lots of builds i have looked at that make decent power dont have them. Im not sure if there is a clearence issue or not as far turbo manifold or turbo. I plan on running a top mount. But in the same sense, i want this to be a fun street car and i know the tire size i will have to run to get any traction will not be to fun to drive on a manual rack.

Ideas?

most people just loop the lines. you can run a rack off a cx/dx if you wish.

Thanks sir. Its going to be slow progress but im sure it will come along.

Got into the shop for a few minutes to grab some tools i needed at work, ended up getting the axles out, removed the evap box, removed the rest of the ac lines and started to take out the evaporator core box to remove the core. After i get that out i will have to see if i can plug up the hole in the box or just order the piece from a car that didnt have a/c.

Didnt get to much done other than that. Im worn out from work, and i get to get up in a few hours to do it all over again. Ill snap some pics if i get down there tomorrow.

Got a few minutes in the shop today. Got the evaporator core and housing out.

Going to get the motor cleaned up a little bit and get it on a skid and in the back of my truck tomorrow, i sold the motor trans, axels and ecu and harness for $500. Didnt think that was a bad deal and i shouldnt need any of it soon.

Tooks some pictures of the engine bay, got a few more things out.

And cleaned up some more stuff in the interior. friday i plan on getting about 15 pounds of dry ice to finish removing all the sound deading stuff. worked well in the trunk.

I am still debating wether or not to cage the car, it is going to stay pretty gutted. I would like to have a more streetable car than my mustang. and a cage is a little bit tight for street driving. well see.

Here is a pic of my mustang interior

When i got home today i got the motor loaded up to sell tomorrow.

Took the day off tomorrow so after i some stuff done, im going to start working on the car again around noon.

But anyway, got some more stuff done tonight.

Tomorrows plans are to remove the sound deading material everywhere, finish removing all the little stuff from interior, get everything else out of the engine bay, make a block off plate for the evaporator box and re install it without the core. Drop the rest of the exhaust out, get the fuel lines off and hopefully get the gas tank down and out. Lots to do, well see how it goes. More pics tomorrow.

sorry about the late update, slept till about 12:30 today. ive been so worn out today. been doing a lot of research today though, trying to figure out a fuel system. Not sure if i want to run an intank pump or external. What do you guys think? Goals as of now are 500++ hp on pump gas. (93) and would like to have the option to run e85 at the track, although its not a deal breaker.

And i didnt forget about the pics, im about to pass out now, will update tomorrow when i get down to the shop.

Got almost everything out of the bay, boost and lines need to come off. Got the exhaust out today, most of the suspension is off and will be dropping the k member soon. Fuel lines and p/s lines will come off when the k member is down. Getting the bay ready to be re-sprayed.

There is the block off plate i made for the now empty evaporator box. Just a peice of abs plastic i had laying around the shop.

Not much progress, getting everything ready for that damn storm thats coming. and doing a ton of reading online. Im going to start asking a lot of questions soon im sure
