Default can cluster bulbs affect cel

This is definately the best honda advice site around, so I hope someone may be able to answer this.

JDM del sol 92, Did some minor repairs, replaced speakers, hole in driver seat (you know the one), cleared window and sail drain tubes and decided to replace backlight bulbs in cluster x7, the two in the heater control and the seatbelt warning light which had blown.

I replaced the bulbs with a 1.2w,12v (286/#74), standard bulb not LED.

Now I have a code 0 cel light remaining on.

My question is could replacing these bulbs interfere with the ecu to trigger this light. On a car this age I think it unlikely but I ask as i have exhausted now my knowledge.

- checked ecu ground at thermostat housing
- all fuses are fine
- tried resetting ecu by removing back up fuse
- can't put the original bulbs back in as i no longer have
- car starts fine, with ignition cel comes on goes off, start car, cel comes back on, shorted the ecu but still constant light suggesting code 0.

all suggestions very much appreciated. thanks.

Please read the helpful tips in the CEL section of the Codes sticky. When CEL turns on, leave the engine running when you jump service connector.

Hi, ok thanks, tried on position 2, then started engine with ecu jumped, still had the solid light. Followed all the jump instructions ever so carefully from this site and another.
(Sticky does n't say to start car though ? )
but thanks for the reply.
Thre only thing different is the backlight cluster bulbs since it last worked properly... but i cannot see how it can be them in a car of this age.
Think it will have to go to the car hospital for a full diagnosis.

Hey there, I am an official sponsor for LED sales here on HT. #74 LEDs if installed properly (plug and play) will NOT affect any other components of your cluster and will not cause a CEL

From what you are saying, you are not following the instructions.

1) Drive car until CEL turns on.

2) Pull over and leave engine running.

3) Jump the service connector and read blinking CEL code(s).

ok, i see your tip 3 from the code thread.

I was using,

4) With the key OFF, insert either a 2-pin connector clip or a loop of wire (e.g., a paper clip) into both holes on the connector.

5) Back in the driver's seat, turn the key to the ON(II) position. The CEL will come on like normal but will then begin to flash.

will try

so yes it is definately a cyp sensor and now i search for a new distributor, joy of joys.... it's only 4 years old...

But I am now trying to figure out did my meddling with the heater/ac bulbs, cluster bulbs do this..... it was all fine before i started tinkering.... and the lesson is "if it's not broke...."
