My em1 and the accident :((( plz help!
Hey everybody the other day i was involved in an accident and of course i just happend to be in the em1 that day..... i watched as electron blue parts flew through the air :/
However, I'M NOT giving up on my baby. Lets begin....
NOW WITH THE DAMAGE: The front radiator support (core support) was pushed in and the hood crinkled. Headlights and bumper are still intact. Fenders were not damaged either so i believe the main side posts are still straight and unharmed. the wreck isnt terrible but bad enough...
id like to fix this baby as i have fixed other front end damage before.
I know i know it will never be THE SAME but i will do my best.
THE PLAN: what i plan to do is either order a new core support from honda or cut one off a civic at the local junk yard and have it welded back on. and the repair the rest of the body from there....
PLEASE if anyone has any experience with this or has performed this transplant, please help with any advice you may have or photos or tips and tricks.
She still runs and drives perfectly! I just can't let an em1 rot away in a junkyard after being parted out to a bunch of clones :/
Thanks,
Ryan

should be no biggy. you will want to get a spot weld cutter kind of looks like a hole saw with a pointer in the middle. Then when you go back together with new support you will just plug weld smooth over prime and paint.
Thank you for replying.
I actually have done some research on that already, And it seems to be the most "proper" way to remove the old one. That's what I could really use some help on.....
Like, where EXACTLY to drill/cut. So that it's precise.
Also, the best method of doing this. I wish there was a write up on this topic but no luck so far.
I'm all ears though, thanks.

I wouldn't change the entire core support, I would just replace whats damaged. Since its just the upper part damaged, you can cut the core support at the bumper bar mounting points and replace from there up.
post a pic of the damage....its not hard at all to do a core support. Bunch of drilling out spot welds to get the one off. Then put the new one on and spot weld the same spots your drilled off the old
