Default oem roof rack

my 98 crv didnt come with a roof rack. if i were to pick up an oem one from the junkyard how hard would it be to install it like it came from the factory or is it even possible? or would i be better off getting something aftermarket?

VERY, very easy. Just did this on my '00; found a yard that would sell me it for $50 with all bolts/ mounting blocks/ base pads/ etc. Found a near-by U-pic yard that had an '00 with an OEM rack but wider cross bars; so raided those to double the bars on mine.

If you're getting yours from a U-Pic yard, also make sure to grab the roof rail moldings; doing so will save you time as you won't have to measure and cut those moldings on your own.

If you need any spare bolts, let me know -- I have some extras; the bolts that anchor the mounting blocks are a little bit bespoke, and as far as I know, Honda won't sell them a la carte.

EDIT: In case you haven't found this already, here's the OEM installation guide. Note you'll need at least one torx bit to take this off; two if you plan on completely dismembering it for shipping. Apart from that, though, it's rather simple.

Hard to say -- it's hard for me to find Gen 1 CR-Vs in yards around my area! Car-part.com is somewhat hit or miss, but generally pretty decent for trying to find a rack. Make sure whomever you're buying it from pulls all mounting pads, blocks, and bolts -- you can't get them from Honda if they're missing!
