HX vs VX Lean Burn
I'm looking to get the most MPG out of a Civic HX. I used to have a VX that I could consistently get over 60 MPG with. I changed to an HX and knew that it had a bit more horsepower and weighed a bit more and was geared a bit lower but thought that I could at least get in the 50's easily. What I've found out and need help with are the differences in the Lean Burn. On the VX, the Lean Burn seemed to only require a warm engine and light load on the engine. The HX seems to be limited to only working above certain RPMs and is very finicky. I've done some reading and it seems like the only way to tweak the RPM and maybe other restrictions is to swap out the ECU for OBDI and then tune. Is that correct? Is anyone here familiar enough with what goes on in these ECU's to tell me what the differences are and if I have any decent options? I really just want the HX Lean Burn to function more like the VX. Thanks!
I tune my hondas for gas mileage by adding timing and reducing the fuel in the cruising part of the map. There is a thread in this subforum which bugermass posts a lot of useful info.
Thanks. Do you use any specific software or instrumentation for that? How do you keep track of changes and what works and what doesn't? I am using the torque app with my Droid phone so I have access to my OBDII as gauges but I currently don't have any tuning software.
