Default ZEX on my accord

I was talking to someone about putting my car on the bottle. It is a 90 accord lx with a slushbox and 198,xxx miles on it. I said that the motor would not be able to take it since it has so many miles on it. He said it owuld be fine as long as I ran colder plugs and retarded the timing. I dont think it would be a good thing to run a kit on my car with that many miles. Any opinions or suggestions?

what else do you have done to your car.

it wouldnt make any sense to spray w/ no mods.

besides that, your engine, tranny, axles are probably not in the best of shape right now.
if you do want to do it that bad, i give you 5 runs on 55 shot before something breaks.

I put a 55 shot on my 94 with 190,000 and I was given about 5 shots of 55 through it, or so everyone said. So many people told me my car would die after a few uses that I began to worry. After a few tanks it became routine to use the nitrous. When I got into my car, I would crack open the tank and when I got home I would shut it off. Also, I was told that my tranny would die after a few runs too. I assure you that I have gone through 10 (10LB) tanks of nitrous and the car ran fine. I used colder (ZEX) plugs and did not retard the timing. I have recently retarded my timing and put it up to a 75 shot and still have experienced no problems. These engines are tough. I've only done the 75 shot a few times though because I have engine problems (unrelated to the nitrous use though). I say go for it and you will have fun. I can't say for sure what will happen to your engine because everyone's is different. Mine has been driven hard on a daily basis.
PS- Mines a Crapomatic also.

as for mods i have I/H/E no cat and msd plug wires. I was telling my friend it would be stupid of me to put my car on the bottle. He says it will be fine. The tranny has only 60k on it. The motor has been properly maintained, but I still dont know about this. Do you think I can get away with this like my friend says? I probably wont do it, but I want to know.

i belive the way it works is that if the bottle is not hooked up then it is ok, but i do belive you need a fire estuingsher(sp), if it is hooked up i belive the could impound your car, im sure it also depends on where you live too.

I'm not sure what I run. I haven't taken it to the track yet due to my valve problem. I put a timing controller it to adjust my timing and it was bad.
As far as the tranny probs, I have had none due to this. I recently changed my tranny fluid and now I get a tranny code but I think this is unrelated because it was fine before. BTW the biggest concern of mine was not destroying the engine /tranny but the way I'm going to tow it home. I plan on a swap anyway and I have other cars to drive. If you are too worried about your only means of transportation, then be cautious. I'm sure many here will agree that you can safely use a 55 Shot reliably for years if used with premium fuel and colder plugs. If your engine has a weak link already, it will probably break.
Would I do it if I were you? Hell yeah, they don't call it giggle gas for nothing. It will make you

I live in Ohio so it may be different where you live. My friend is a cop and he checked the law for me. As long as it's a closed system (as in not leaking nitrous oxide into the interior of the car) it is legal. No fire extinguisher is needed because Nitrous Oxide is not flammable!

A big part in using it to avoid killin the tranny is using off the line, that is alot of stress on the transsmission itself. Your motor should still be fine.

This is true. Do not use it below 3000-3500 rpms. I have mine set to kick in a t 3500 rpms which is also when my vtec kicks in (thanks to my Apexi' VAFC). When they both kick in together...

No I didn't. I gained power across the board. I never felt the vtec kick in before I lowered the engagement point. Now as soon a my VTo (or is it VTi) turns on I feel it. It's not a huge power surge that breaks the tires loose. It just feels like the car accelerates much quicker and easier...

If you feel the vtec kick, then vtec is set too high and you need to lower it. When I put in my vafc the vtec kicked. I dropped 200 rpm and it was smoother which gave more power sooner.

Try lowering it a 100 rpm and see how that works.

i have a nitrousworks kit on my car.. heres my only beef with it:

it was ADICTING. over the past 3 years i've had it i've blown through like 3k of nitrous easily. looking back i shoulda sunk the money into a real power adder...

so while nitrous is cheap at first... watch out down the road.

I have to disagree here. You can get a used kit for $500. I paid $3600 for the turbo kit.

$3100 / $4/lb = 775 lbs of nitrous. In a ten lb bottle thats 77.5 refills. Thats a crap load of playing.

Granted I dont think n2o is as safe as a tuned turbo, but thats my opinion.

back in the day i'd go through a bottle once a week no problemo. if you think thats uncommon my brother used to do the same and continues to empty a 10lb bottle every 2 weeks.

i finally grew up and stopped that **** 3 engines later though.

nitrous prices can vary alot.. here in the sticks of iowa they shaft you 5.50/lb. back home in FL 3/lb is common.

bottom line i cant wait to have boost... 30-45 second squirts just dont cut it.

If you were on the nitrous for 30-45 seconds you would be going like 150-200MPH.
I have spent a lot of money on nitrous too ($3.40 a LB here) but it has been worth every penny IMO. I love it ! Yes, I plan on going turbo too. I can't imagine how nice it must be to have an extra 75HP every time I push the gas pedal instead of just when I flip the switch...

When you spray nitrous for 15 seconds you should have gone a quarter mile at almost 100 mph , correct? I think if you sprayed for that long you would burn your pistons up...

Edit: I don't think I have ever sprayed for more than 15 seconds. I would just be going too fast. In the ZEX manual it recommends to not spray more than 15 seconds I believe...
