96 Accord AT problem
Just wanted to say thanks for any and all advice ahead of time, hopefully someone can give me some good news today...lol.
I just bought a 96 accord and it's having some transmission (AT) related problems. I've searched around the internet for about an hour or so now and I'm still perplexed. The car will start fine every time you turn the key, but the "D4" light stays lit up until you pull it out of park. The shifter feels like it is stuck in park, you have to force it out but once you do the shifter moves freely between the gears.
Once you put it in drive the car will pull for a little while (usually a minute or two) and then it feels like the car goes into neutral and it will just free-rev and not get any power to the wheels. If you put the car in park, turn the ignition off, and let it sit for a few minutes it will start fine and go into gear and pull for a little while more, but then it goes right back to free-revving with no power to the wheels.
My Dad went and picked the car up, and when he did they told him about this issue and he made it about 10 miles without any problems. The trans shifted smoothly between the gears all the way home. Now as it sits it has the same problem every time you start it. I was wondering if this was a bad transmission, bad torque converter, or an electrical issue(TCM,TPS)?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
