I'm trying to rescue a car, but I need some input on how to go about this. My boss has seen this car in his neighbors driveway and didn't think much of it. As it turns out he was making a boys scout cookie sale run around the block and noticed that it was a1998 type r. Monday he tells me about and I didn't believe him as he says its been there for years. After work I decide to see if it was a real type r and to my surprise it was. I immediately run to the door to see if I can get some info and if they want to sell it. No answer, so I wrote a small letter to express my interest. The car is in plain view, the paint is faded, but it looks like its mostly in one piece besides the front and rear seats are missing. I work at a car dealer and I checked the vin and its clear and it looks like its been sitting for 6 years now. I don't wanna intrude or be bothersome to the owners, but it is obvious that no one values this car as its sitting rotting away. I tried searching the address and it seems as if the house is up for foreclosure on the public records. I'm just amazed that it hasn't been stolen, all the emblems are gone as low buck thieves got to it. Any suggestions on how I can get in touch with the owner? I tried phone, letters and two visits to the house. I hate for this car to be stolen on taken by the bank. Any suggestions on how I can go about getting in touch with the owner?

You should be able to find the name of the owner of the home through the Clerk of Courts office and than search using the white pages for a current address and number. If it is already in foreclosure and the bank has taken possession of the house, I would contact the bank and make a cash offer to remove the abandoned vehicle from the property because it will cost them to remove it and it is likely they would send it to the scraper!

That's a good suggestion, I found the name of the owners of the house, but the car was registered to a different name. Got in touch with my realtor and he says that the bank can't sign the car over if its registered to a different name. He said that the car will be towed away to who knows where.

I would still try to get in contact with the home owner because they are more than likely able to lead you to the owner of the car! The bank could have the vehicle's title transferred if it has been " Abandoned" long enough. Each state is different when it comes to the length of time required for the vehicle to be considered abandoned. It is however doubtful the bank would go through said trouble and most likely would have car towed to junkyard.
That car hasn't been sitting for six years with clear windows, fully inflated tires, and super clean driveway underneath it... That thing looks cleaner than most vehicles on this forum. Good luck non the less

Phone pic makes it look way cleaner than it is. Car plates expired on 2006 and according to the carfax it was last tested for emissions on 2006. Also the two tires on the passenger side are flat. I'm just making an assumption that its been there for that long from the information that i have gathered. Either way I think is worth the effort.
dude i hope you can get it.
i heard the same thing about an r here in co that was sitting at some apartment complex and never moved, this car needs to be rescued!!

Ok so Ive have become a little obsessed on finding the owner. So far I have found out who the car is registered to. As it turns out it was registered to the house where its sitting at. I got their number through the white pages, but all my attempts to call and leaving messages have not been successful. Im going to take a ride tomorrow or tuesday as the car is about 1hr1/2 away from home. Hopefully I can get a hold of the owner or the neighbor. Here is the only pic I was able to take from my phone.

Looks like car is complete other than interior??? Motor and tranny?

^Thanx for the tip. I did a reverse phone lookup and the number is associated to the address where the car is. Phone is not an option anymore as it is obvious that the person in the house is prob ignoring any strange numbers. So tomorrow ill be making a stop there, I hope somebody answers the door. Since the house is in foreclosure, its a possibility that perhaps the owners have already moved out. The car has some heavy oil stains underneath it, I'm thinking that maybe the motor is blown. I search the last name to get and idea of the kind of people they are. The result said that its a Laos last name and they are very humble people that aren't very social. Lets hope they can just give me a minute to express my interest.

Oh and it's only missing the front and rear seats and it even has a very sun faded oem checkered cargo floormat. Motor and trans are still on it and airbags aren't deployed. If I am able to buy I will restore it to its oem form.
Just take the damn thing.... Kidding of course.
If the house is under foreclosure the bank already has its grips on it. Call them and make a low ball offer to remove a junk car from the premises. Terminology is every thing. Its a junk car, not a Type R. Remember that.
Once you get the paper work from the bank its easy as pie to get a new title for it.
Im really stoked to see how this turns out, I hope it ends well.
