2002 civic ex won't start....dont think its the same.
Hey everyone, long time reader, first time poster. Ok i aquired a 02 ex and it starts good when cold, the car that is. Runs good no matter what. 255k. The problem is that once you run it for a little bit and you turn it off to get gas or what ever, it doesn't want to start when you get back into it. The weather is not a factor from what i can see so i dont think it is a relay issue.
I know that there are some other post on here about a problem like this but i think this one may be a little different. The "key" light is NOT flashing. The battery has a good charge and the alternator is good. New spark plugs, air cleaner is good. When it is not starting the fuel pump goes through its normal cycle so i think that it is pumping fuel.
I got a check engine light and it came back with misfire on 1-3 cyl. I ordered new all new coils for it cause they have been in there for a while. I took them out and checked the ohms on the 3 pins and they were all about the same. Now i also did this when the car was not wanting to start.
Also did a compression test and i got between 147-152psi.
Now i also have another c.e.l. saying coolant temp out of range or something like that. the coolant gauge works sometimes, but i have a new sending unit to fix that. I dont think that would make the engine not start???
The fuel gauge also only goes to half a tank on a full tank. Don't know if that would cause the car not to start cause i looked at the starting curcuit schematic and it was not on there to complete the loop.
Now sometimes i can push on the accelerator and crank it at the same time and it will slowly climb up to idle and then run good.
Now someone said that there was some work done with the fuel pump and that is why the fuel guage is not working correctly.
This weekend i am going to install new coils, check the spark, relays and fuel pressure. Any other ideas that people may have would be a great help. Dont have a lot of money but good with tools so any input would be very helpful......thank you!

Sounds like your car may be demanding more fuel according to you saying you have to pump the peddle and it will slowly start. Same thing happened to my last car and i was able to get a controller for the fuel ratio or it can be your sensor that monitors the fuel air ratio find the wire and trace it back it can be grounding out, broken or just old and have moisture
