Dash oil lite malfunction?
Hi All,
I’m a Newbie here and I love to get info from these forums, the input is great.
At any rate... I have I questions regarding a 1990 B18 Integra that I just got.
Back ground first: The PO changed the cam timing belt and managed to set one cam ahead and the other behind by one gear tooth on each gear. At any rate it ran like crap so he gave it to me after letting it sit for awhile and let the batt go dead. So it was dead when I got it.
I fixed the cam timing and now it runs great but the dash oil pressure light is on (not real bright) and tends to flicker. I measured the oil pressure at the oil switch (65 PSI cold), changed the switch but the oil light stays on. When there is no oil the switch should be shorted or closed. The switch opens with about 5 PSI of pressure and opens the circuit.
I shorted the oil switch connector/lead to ground and the dash light turned on bright, as it should. I then started the car and after 2 seconds I disconnect the switch lead from ground (opening the circuit), and the dash light remained on but not as bright as before. This test should have emulated a normal startup w/ normal oil pressure. With no oil pressure the switch is shorted causing the dash light to turn on brite and with pressure the switch opens, interuptiing the circut, and the light goes off.
My question is… What is keeping the dash light on, and why?
Thanks to all who comment.
