My current situation has led me back to the ITR.
It's been 11 yrs and even with the prices I've seen on nice examples, I still think it's one of the best bang for the buck cars out there.
It seems pefect for what I need right now:
Back seat, good MPG, competitive in stock class autox and good return on investment when sold.
The only thing I'm not certain about is MPG. Remember gas was $1 a gal the last time I drove one. I never checked to see how it did.
Is high twenties doable with mixed driving?

I drive in a very "spirited" fashion. 20 miles roundtrip with most of it being a highway drive and a a 10 to 15 mile trip out to lunch all of which is stop and go and I get on the low side 26mpg. I'm completely stock on dunlop direzza star spec tires.
seems to average 28 mixed.
depends on what you lean on more for the good deals. if it's stock autocross and spirited driving the c5 z06 is a better buy. they have dropped to the 15-16k range if you get a 60-70k mile car. they also aren't nearly as theft prone. 405hp and 3000lbs stock is fun. also has virtually the same interior as the itr
itr would be better for mpg, snow driving, parking lots and hauling things along with the cost of replacement parts

true that the C5Z might be one of the better cars bang/buck and it gets good gas mileage for being a 350ci engine. negative is it has 2 seats vs. 4 depending on the needs for the OP.
Thanks for the MPG info!
No doubt about the C5Z. I still have the one I replaced the ITR with back in '01. Nearly every car I've considered has fell short (for my needs) when compared to the R...
RSX-S: Mac struts and no LSD. Would be good for the STF class, but I don't want to be tempted to mod one.
RX8: Mediocre MPG
Focus SVT: Same as RSX and kinda fugly.
A Mini Cooper S w/ LSD is the only other car that would work.

I do miss the CR. I knew GPW was rare when I was shopping for one, but I didn't know just how rare it was until I'd had it for a yr or so. Only 90 built for both yrs with a few total losses and one sent to a collector in Tokyo. I enjoyed that car for 3 yrs, not missing any of the autocross events in my area. I put about 13K miles on it and did a track day with it too. Great car and not a single problem with it. I sold it to focus on prepping my Z06 and two 2 seaters was just not working out. It went to a S2K fanatic who had been looking for one for over a yr. It's his 4th S2K.
Lots of great memories.

Update:
It's been a month since I flew to DC and bought 01-612
I drove 960 miles back home without a hiccup. I was getting 30-35 MPG with most of the trip being with the AC off. I've put 3K miles on it and I'm very pleased with the car. No oil consumption and the worst MPG I've gotten out of a tank is 29.
The only problems I've found are a few scratches here and there, a door ding in the passenger door, the antenna is bent a little and makes a machine gun sound when it retracts, and the rear hatch won't lock occasionally. Not bad at all for an 11 yr old car with 53K miles. I will repair these things when time and $ permits.
The car came with an inch thick stack of Acura service records. The previous owner really stayed on top of the maintenance of this car.
I will continue to do the same.

Retracting "machine gun sound" is normal on these cars.
Rear lock is also common. Search and you'll find out how to fix that rear hatch part.
Glad to see this car went to a good home.

I've taken the car from 53,969 to 59,xxx since 10/23/12. Still very happy, Car has been trouble free and the worst tank was 27.xx MPG. Best tank was 35.xx. I average 30-31 on my route. My 7 yr old and 3 yr old love riding in it
I've done 2 autocrosses and it's a blast to drive on the smaller courses we have around here.

Update:
I just realized it's been a year since I picked heR up. Man time flies!
Odometer as of this morning is at 65,608. So I've taken it from 53,xxx with only one real issue. The driver's side seat belt pops out. It looks like that'll be covered by Acura though.
Pretty outstanding for a 12 yr old vehicle.
I've managed to work in three autocrosses, one RallyX, one track day (101 miles on track) and zero street races.
Fuel economy holding steady at around 29-30 mixed driving.
She's been living in the garage from day one of my ownership. The duty of hauling the kids around is reduced due to some work changes.
And my bride has a '14 Mazda 6 which gets even better MPG than the ITR.
The only changes I've made are Koni yellows (OTS) and a Schroth harness.
