Default Lights and Radio Turn off whlie driving

Ok so nothing has changed about my car (94 gsr dc2) electronically for the past 6 months. The other day i was driving and my headlights and radio shutoff but not my motor as well as my battery light turning on. Then everything turned back on a second later. Same thing started happening today so I tried to isolate the problem. Turned off my car and checked the voltage of the battery which read about 12.9v, then turned the car on with no other devices on and it read about 14.8, turned the radio on and dropped to 14.6, then the lights dropped it to about 14.3 and fluctuated up and down as normal. I decided to take it to autozone anyways so they can test for free and they said battery cells were going bad so i bought a new battery. Problem still occurred then I replaced my shitty HIDs with all oem lights. problem still occurs. I checked all fuses and grounds and all seem to be intact. I dont know what the problem could be. The only additional information I have is that 6 months ago I installed an alarm and everything works except the siren I fried, and have had a hyper blink since; but this has caused no electrical problems that I am aware of.

Thanks for reading and any advice.

Try looking for a wiring short that doesn't pop a fuse, especially if your new battery dies like the old one. I had an LED bulb that melted itself for some reason and shorted out. My battery drained pretty quickly when I turned on the lights.

update today: I pulled out the fried siren from the alarm I still had siting there and also checked for power at my headlights, when i turn them on they are getting 12v but the brand new sylvania ultra-bright $64 blubs were not working. Took a closer look and found that they had blown.... I plugged in the old crappy HIDs from DDM Tuning and they work but I still have the hyper blink and have not driven my car far (which is normally when everything shuts off). I guess I will see tonight on my way to work if any of those things were the problem.

You said you checked your grounds and "all fuses and grounds and all seem to be intact", so question is did you actually test the fuses and check the grounds or did you just eyeball them all?

Is it just the radio and head lights that go out, how about the blower motor, wipers, dome light, [will have to have it on while driving] or any instruments?

Burnt head light bulbs, [when both new bulbs go at the same time] is an indication of a grounding problem, [main chassis ground].

I would recheck the main grounds, and do not just eyeball them, disconnect them, clean both contact surfaces and reconnect, that means the batt. neg.(-) post and cable clamp, batt. to chassis ground and chassis to engine ground. 94

thanks fcm, ive been reading all your posts and respect the feedback, come to think of it i believe my blower motor does go out and i started to notice my dome light flickering, i am going to buy a decent multimeter today to check the amps on all the fuses and also clean the ground as you have said. i will let you know the outcome

update 10/14: blower motor still works when this occurs, wipers work but are a little accelerated due to slight surge in power. Tried switching the front turn signal bulbs to see if the it actually was the bulbs, hyper blink still occurs only on left. so still these issues remain:
- Battery/Charging light in cluster first comes on
- shortly after the radio cuts out
- then headlights shutoff
- when dome light is in door position, it still emits about 10% of light
- hyper blinking only on left ( front left parking light does not illuminate correctly)

update: recleaned grounds, then took my car to several shops and they inspected my electrical problems overnight. My hyper blinking was due to poor connection at the pigtail grounds, however they did not find the source of my lights cutting off. So my next route I am going to try is to replace my HIDs and see how long that works then elimnate my radio completely. I will keep reverting to stock components until problem is resolved unless it never gets fixed. Otherwise I have run out of all ideas other than redo every wire known to man.

i posted a video here
. around 51 seconds I did not turn the radio off it does that when the problems arise. I am also uploading a part 2 that has me driving at night time where this occurs after 90 seconds i think. Thanks for watching. This is BS. Enjoy the music

problem solved. voltage regulator in the alternator went bad and was charging the system up to 18, 19 volts thus causing things to shutoff before jnternally failing. replaced the alternator and everything is fixed
