Default Instrument Panel Lights

I was out driving tonight and had the light in my instrument panel die. I pulled over and checked the fuse and it was fine so I think it might be a bulb. So I rigged my cellphone up to provide light so I know how fast I was going. When I got home I checked my Haynes repair manual and it said I had to remove the steering column to get the panel of. Is this right, or is there an easier way to check the bulb.

Any and all help appreciated as I cant night drive like this.

Well iono about the civics, but for a CRX, you unscrew the plastic shroud covering the cluster and you can get at it from there. If I remember right, there are some tabs that cover the screws, so look carefully. Also IIRC, when my fuse popped, my marker lights went out as well, so if its a problem with the power somewhere, I'm betting you'll notice some of your lights not working.

Best of luck!

I forgot to mention it is a 91 Civic DX

I took out the screws on the bottom and managed to get it off a bit. Turns out it was a loose wire, and I got it in for the most part. However when pulling off the top I failed to notice the 2 hidden screws on top and pulled their mounts a bit. I can see they fit back in but cant figure it out for the life of me. It is working fine but the panel cover is loose on top.

Does anyone know how I get the mounts back in
