I just replaced a seized front passenger caliper with one that I purchased in Autozone on my 96 Accord. The new caliper came with 2 new washers that I installed with the new caliper, however, I realized that the original caliper did not have any installed. Should I have put them on? I put them on in this order: washer, brake hose end, washer, brake hose screw. Sorry for not using proper terminology, but that's the best I can do lol I bled the brakes but I've noticed that the pedal feels spongier than it used to (not sure if it's supposed to feel like that because I guess I was used to the way the pedal felt with the seized caliper), or because I did not correctly install the caliper. I checked the brake reservoir to see if fluid leaked out and it seems like nothing did. Any input?

 

As I understand it, you put a washer on either side of the banjo fitting that is on the end of the brake line. All calipers have them installed that way. The one you took off probably was also. The washers probably are stuck to the fitting or fell off when you removed the bolt. Look at #33.

 

Should have one copper washer on both sides or the brake line fitting. There are exemptions like some older chevys you had to put 2 on the bottom and on top to creat a seal. I think it was poor location on who ever designed their calipers, so brake line actually sits at an angle.

 

I would be very surprised if there were not two washers, one on top and one on bottom, so it's good you're doing it the right way. You don't want to take any chances and always be sure to tighten those bolts down to specs or atleast very good. And always check for leaks before putting the wheels back on.

 

Ok that's good that I put the washers correctly, I was a bit worried lol anyhow, is there any reason to why the pedal feels spongey? The pedal before the new caliper did not feel solid to begin with, but now with the new caliper it feels spongier. Is that normal?
