looking to purchase a RSX
hey all im from Australia wanting to purchase a integra DC5
now im curious how reliable are these in auto due to i cant drive manual got a bung leg
also parts are literally an arm and leg here down under so every little thing that breaks e,g radiator , suspension exhaust etc would be ordered from Ebay USA
are there any common problems to look out for when purchasing one of these with about 150K miles on the clock
thank you in advance

Aside from the usual high-mileage car issues (some worn suspension bits, CV Boot, a couple of bad gaskets, worn drive belt), the only problem I have with the '02 RSX I bought this year is rust. Granted, it is a 10 year old car, but it seems like everywhere I look, there's a coating of the stuff on anything that's exposed bare metal.
Granted, I doubt you'll have that problem in Australia, whereas I live in a much colder place.

the rust is because of your location... you drive it in the snow? How often do you wax and clay bar your ride lol You live in Michigan... probably use a **** ton of salt like we do in WI.
As far as the base no real bad problems I am aware of. You should be good. Just usual maintanence like any other car.

ok cool cool , well when i get it im expecting il need to do a full service including the auto fluid , but i expect as any aging car at least replacing a muffler but im planning to get a full system.
and i guess the radiator would be shagged from all the road bugs etc ,
suspension a nice set of coil overs plus the necessary bushes since im tight lol/
ive owned 2 hondas in the past an EK which was very nice did not give to much trouble
then i owned a 89 model legend which was blowing clouds of blue smoke , radiator needed patching up , alternator once the alternator went i sold it for 2K which was not to bad

I gave it the clay/polish wax treatment last week, probably for the first time in its life.
Yeah, vehicular rust-cancer is pretty common on older cars here in MI. This one was purchased from the original owner in Cleveland, where it was driven since new in 2002. In addition to the rust on anything that is bare metal, it's starting to get the usual Honda-rot on the back of the rear wheel arches, though it hasn't come through the paint yet.

right now atm im "building" a daily thrash box , its pretty much like a vic crown cop car but 1990 model it would probably be lucky if it got 130RW KW at the wheels but weighs 300kg more then the RSX and only has 3 gears
would the RSX slaughter my current car ?
my current car would be lucky if it got a 16-17 second 1/4 mile pass
i know i sound like such a noob but thank you everyone for being so supportive and ya im researching i guess parts are real common down in the US for these due to they share the same engine in a civic i believe so gaskets etc common as

I'm not sure how fast one can make a base/auto RSX go, without investing serious money in engine swaps/turbocharging and so forth. However, I have zero experience with that particular model/spec, but I'm sure there are others here who do.
It turned a sort of brown on several sections, but I was constantly re-kneading it after almost every pass. The feel of it on some panels felt a bit like running your fingers over beard stubble.

hmm so im guessing the base models are kind of "looked" down upon the base ones here in Australia have got cloth seats etc pretty much like my old EK1 CXI with no power windows etc but the DC5s have all got power windows even our base models
time for bed but i appreciate the advice hopefully all of us can chat again will be cheeking up on this thread plus reading build threads etc
ahh ok not good but hey you got the contamination out which is what the clay bar is for

I wouldn't say they're looked down upon, the base model just wasn't intended to be a performance vehicle, especially with an automatic. As a daily driver that looks good and is somewhat sporty in character, a base RSX does exactly what it's supposed to do, and does it well.
would anyone know what those cheap eBay exhaust systems like now days ?
im thinking with such age the stock one would be quite rusted out and hoping to replace it with one of those $150 cat back systems and the cheap a$$ extractors ( just to fix rust)
gosh i sound like a ricer , but i will get a set of skunk2 cams i know there worth $650+ but just not to be so much of a ricer il get them just so i don't seem like the typical 15yo with just the cannon tip making 110DB of noise for nothing
Not really. Honda exhausts used to rust to bits after 7 years or so, but anything made in the last decade or so doesn't have that problem. The parts department at my dad's Honda dealer barely ever has exhaust parts for newer vehicles in stock. I was surprised at how rusty the exhaust on my car isn't, considering the amount of rust on the suspension and everywhere else!

ahh wow your dad works at a honda parts department dam man that would be so awesome like Christmas every day
My budget has kind of increased , im now looking at the Australian spec type R's sure they may not be the real McCoy but still they come with recaro's i think there like a RSX-S and they got the better "motor" and the 6 speed manual
are the 6 speeds a real nice gearbox ?
