Tire size help
I have a lowered em1, she sits on the stock si wheels (15x6) with 195/50r15 instead of the oem 195/55r15, and the gap between tire and fender is approximately one finger.
So I plan on upgrading to a 16" wheel that is (16x7) which means its an inch wider.
Now my biggest concern is, is it safe to put 195/45r16 tires into the 16x7 wheels, and would it still retain the one finger gap from the fender using 195/45 over the 195/50?
edit#1: Both oem and the aftermarket wheels are +45 offset.
*Update* 205/45r16 started rubbing on my fender.
So if anyone is interested in 2x brand new Yokohama S drive 205/45r16.
Shoot me a pm

I was planning on going with 205/45-16 but I do not want to take the chance of dealing rubbing problems. Unless you can convince me otherwise.

I would upgrade to the 16" wheel obviously your gonna have to get new tires put on the rims so when you take your car in they more then likely can help with all your concerns and the speedometer comment, when you upgrade bigger or down size tires they set your gages to the proper speeds for you

I suppose on newer cars you could fiddle with one of the 3 of 4 computers on board, but you can't do it with Civics, period.
Just to make sure so you experience absolutely no rubbing problem? What about U-turns? Also can you check your car to see about how many fingers is the gap between your fender and the tire?
I honestly feel like the tire shops in my area, just want to make money slapping tires on the wheels, and could care less about the customer's problem.

It's actually a little lower that in all of those pictures. I've since added 80lbs by virtue of my swap. Had to get the toe put back where it's suppose to be.
By keeping the same offset with the wider wheels you've pushed the outside of the tire closer to the fender. And what are the tires rubbing against? The fender? I wonder how that happened...
Also sounds like someone should actually learn that "sounds like" is NOT making an assumption, but rather, is suggesting a potential situation based on what information has been presented...
However, that should be a perfectly fine offset for those wheels. Camber kit being used to reduce negative camber?
One finger gap between tire and fender on stock si wheels.
Initially I was planning on staying with 195 as said in first post. That is until someone suggested going 205. (No disrespect I understand that you were trying to help) The tires only rub against the fender when i'm entering/exiting a driveway.
First post i presented that both wheels are both +45
Read post #3, I was aware that it might rub if the width has increased.
Edit: Well what do you recommend boss?
And you also know that when you change the width, you should change the offset to accommodate the increased width?

And holy crap, I never knew there was a 195/45/16 tire available, that is a weird size.
Along with tire size, offset plays a fairly significant role in what rubs and what doesn't.
Yes I have, and am actually looking into coilover right now. Just debating eibach or skunk2.
So i take it his offsets were lower than mine =/
45? 45 what? The 45 is a percentage of the width in milimeters, 195/45 & 205/45s have different tire heights. In other words, the 45 is irrelevant.
