Yes, I know this topic is exhausted a million times.My buddy with an EG is looking to control his fans manually. In a Search on here, I concluded that the easiest way to go about this is tapping into the Fan Switch, which I believe is on the thermostat housing if im not mistaken.
Im still learning about wiring and so forth so bare with me..
Im trying to see if we are doing this right so I came up with a drawing. Hopefully, you guys can understand what I drew, because Im not Picasso by all means..lol

From what I understand, I tap into the positive wire with a toggle switch and ground the negative wire to the engine chassis?? Correct??

 

well technically if Picasso drew it, we probably wouldn't even have an idea what it was, he wasn't much a realistic type artist.

and, no...your drawing is incorrect. If your buddy wanted to manually control his fans, truly manually control them anyhow....putting a toggle between the battery and the switch would only control the fan when the switch was in the "on" setting. The fan switch toggles the fans themselves. So when the car is hot it is "on" and when the car isn't hot the switch is in the "off" setting.

To manually control you'd need to wire the fan up direct perhaps...with a toggle between obviously.

Again though, Id stress.....its a civic. Let the fans work when its hot, and let the sensors control it. There's no reason I can think of to manually control the fans. If the fan switch doesnt work...fix that, dont band aid the issue.

I did it to my car, works fine. And looks almost professional.

I just didnt wanna buy a new tstat switch and happened to have a switch and some power cords laying around. Let me know if you want me to tell you how i did it.

 

You can put a manual/toggle switch parallel to the thermo switch. When toggle is off, the thermo switch controls the fan automatically just like it should. When toggle is on, fan runs continuously whether engine is hot or cold as long as the key is in ON position.

Why would you want to have a toggle for the fan?

 

my tstat switch doesnt work. my rad fan never comes on. I hardwired it so that if im at say mcdonalds drive through my car wont overheat.

A new tstat switch is only like 20 bucks or something i think but hey i dont mind putting in a half hour of work for that.

And if thats not enough then at least i looks bad *** lol

 

just fix the damn thing. it is stupid to put a toggle switch in.

lots of cash to spend? if you can't afford the $15 for the switch, you probably shouldn't even own a vehicle.

 

lol i probly shouldnt but im a delivery driver so that would be a bit difficult.
I did think they were a bit more than that however like in the 30s. Atleast thats what the guy at advanced told me. I said f that i rigged up a toggle.

And like i said the experience is worth it to me.

 

Just fix the root problem. After that, if you *still* want to install a toggle switch for some reason, then I'd recommend installing a 3-way switch with the the #1 position being off, #2 position being sensor controlled, and the #3 position being on. That way, you at least have the option of letting the car control the fan... ya know... like it's supposed to.

 

thats a cool idea. i dont really see the point since im just dding my car. but would be a cool project. I guess you guys think im using a switch to be cool or for performance. I just happened to have a switch and wire and that fixed the problem vs buying a new tstat switch.

So tstat swtiches are interchangeable between most 90s hondas? Wouldnt i be better off getting one for a d series?

 

If you forget to switch it on, you blow the engine.
If you keep it on, fan fails prematurely and blows your engine.

 

they're all the same.

 

pull the plug out of the therastat. strip a small peace of wire on both ends. put it in both sides of the plug. your fan will always be on which is fine for a temp fix well you save up your $20 and nothing will be cut.

 

besides human error there are no problems though?

Ive been driving w no rad fan for a while now i just keep moving or shut the car off.

I guess those 2 things could happen, so i guess ill just go buy a tstat swtich

 

d f and b all use same tstat switch?? i just hate buying crappy parts, id rather it be home made than china made yano?

 

idk if you read what i said earlier but i have it all hooked up nicely to an in cabin switch. but i didnt do it that way i hooked it directly to the fan not to the switch.

Im not sure if that would work since my tstat switch is broke idk much about cars tho
