im buying a stainless steel ES oval muffler, but i saw some pictures where the muffler was jet black. i was wondering what kind of paint is required to get that look? is there a process to paint the muffler correctly?

 

yes.. go to store. buy high heat black paint. paint.

be the absolute highest heat black paint. and coat several times.

 

i bought high heat temp paint from walmart and sprayed away. looks good, just wait 15-20 min between coats and it should come out good.

btw clean the muffler off w/ a good cleaner to make sure theres no grease on it or whatever.

why paint it black? it just traps too much heat.

You want it to trap heat. Cold air = heavier = more power the engine uses to push it out. High exhaust velocity is good...

 

You really think painting it would cause performance loss
- as in keeping the heat it...

it wouldn't make .0000000001 amount of difference but i wouldn't want a ton more heat riding near my painted bumper.

yea i wouldnt like that eithr...but having a stealthy exaust like that isnt a bad idea .
might fool theaves and cops...

- i wonder if it would get alot hottr then with out paint

 

It won't get as hot as anything near the cat. When you drive, the air will cool it.
Besides, its "high-temperature" paint.
