d16y7 rpm question
finly got an ex cluster for my civic so i finaly know what rpms im running at.
my question is on wikipedia for the d16y7 it says redline is 6,800 and rev limit is 7,200.
well the most iv gotten mine up to was 4,500 and it was screamin (stock exhaust) and it was defenatly out of the power band by then. which kinda makes since wikipedia has peak torque at 4600 but dosnt match up with the 6.8k redline which would make you think 5k-5.5k would be no problem.
anyway how many of you get your stock y7 up to 6,800 and still pull. im trying to find out if mine is normal or if there might be a restriction in the intake or exhaust at that rpm.

There is something wrong. My old y7 hit (This is an estimate) 6-7k one time pulling out into traffic (Yes, I forgot to shift).
Is it idling strange? Any MIL light/Codes on the computer? When was the last tune up on the car done?
If you have not done a tune up lately, its a cheap place to start. Dist. Cap and Rotor, Spark Plugs, Wires, PCV Valve, Air Filter, Fuel Filter, Oil Change with new Filter.
From there, you could check you timing to make sure it is within spec. Check if the throttle plate is opening all the way when the pedal is floored.
There is somewhere to start, let us know if you fix the problem or run into the more.
