Default 96 Accord LX has intermittent split-second power fall-off

My 1996 Honda Accord LX with 5-speed manual transmission has a power fall-off or stall for just a split second every 20 or 30 minutes of city driving. Sometimes there are a few at a time, each for just a split second. It's like a hiccup or several hiccups. There's no reaction in the instruments. When several happen, I often have to put the clutch in or give more gas to et through it. But most of the time the car recovers on its own. I would say it happens more often at the bottom of a gear when beginning to accelerate. My mechanic is stumped. He's tried replacing the relay to the fuel pump and adding a fuel treatment a couple of months ago, which seemed to work for a few days, but the problem came back. He says the car's computer does not indicate any problem with the distributor. Does anyone have any clue what this problem is?

Is it rpm or speed related?
What rpm/speed do you find it normally occurring at.
If the fuel treatment cleared it up for a few days, have you tried going to a different gas station? Or does this always happen regardless of station?

More often than not, it happens between 2000 and 3000 rpm. And I do vary my gas stations. The fuel treatment helped last time, but then I just brought my car to my mechanic again and he added another fuel treatment. This time it isn't helping. The problem is actually getting worse (i.e., more frequent).

I had this same exact issue and it was my oxygen sensor. It took me forever to figure it out 'cause mine was fairly new but I had an exhaust leak that made it foul. It was actually pretty scary. I chased everything I could until I finally just gave up and replaced the oxygen sensor after I had previously fixed the exhuast leak and that cleared it up.
