Default (Y8 swap into 88 DX help/info) New user.

( Im new to all this but capable with the right instructions ) So im in need of some help please ive researched a hell of alot and i finally made an account for some insite. So i bought a 88 dx hatch as my daily driver since i commute a good distance per day. The little civic that could has seen better days currently im sporting the almighty d15b2 fire breathing 93 hp engine.. i found a great deal on a minty low miles y8 long block-ish..missing a dizzy thats about it no engine harness.

Currently im sure you know i have a dpfi harness / ecu and im curious on how to wire it all in. For starters i know i have to do the mpfi swap ( kinda confuses me) and all that and the y8 engine is obd 2 and from what ive seen you do a obd0 - obd1 conversion / ob1 vtec ecu id like to know what exact ecu/ car i should grab an ecu out of in the junkyard for the best compatibility with the y8 and how to make it all work/wire it. If theres anyway you guys would be willing to.. i know im asking alot.. but like to kinda hold my hand through this lol and write me a parts list of exactly what i need in detail or flame/rage on me whatever works im just really in need of info ive asked so many people and all i get is mixed mached **** on how to do it.

this will be my first swap and im really looking forward to learning/doing it.. every piece of info / indetail posts, Links ect. you can throw at me id greatly appreciate your time in doing so. Im on a very tight schedule and work alot of overtime so im trying to make this a 2 day ordeal researching as much as possible (im looking for the simplest/ most effective way to perform this swap, cost for parts isnt much of an issue).

thanks
-M

Welcome to the site.Take the time to read in the stickied (meaning always there @ Top) EF FAQ ,and you will find most answers (if not all) there. Then, after doing this-ask ?'s. No one likes to repeat the same answers to the same ?'s asked multiple times daily-thus the FAQ's purpose on forums. I will tell you that you have to modify your exisiting eng harness by adding 2 injectors -An Si model's will NOT plug into your car! (there isn't the needed additional Plug on driver's side shock tower without replacing ENTIRE cabin harness from an Si,so nothing for it to plug into, make sense?) G'luck!

I swapped a y7 into my EF and the only thing I changed was the thermostat housing, intake manifold, starter alternator and distributer. No extra wiring or anything and it runs beautifully.

Since it's your first swap, it might be a good learning experience to pick up the parts to do a regular DPFI to MPFI swap before getting into the preOBD to OBD1 stuff.
That way you can ensure that your MPFI wiring it in decent condition before moving on.
It is more work and some extra parts that you won't use so completely up to you.
Nice write-up here if you haven't found one yet

Nearly everything from the Y8 will work fine with the P28 OBD1 ECU.
I am assuming you will use an OBD0 (preOBD) to OBD1 jumper harness to do your swap.
Go ahead and pick up a y8 distributor. The Z6 distributor (associated to the P28 ECU) will not bolt up to your Y8 head without modification. Your stock distributor only supports 2 injectors and it's not vtec compatible either)

OBD2 uses different plugs for the distributor. If you use a jumper harness then you will need an OBD2 to OBD1 distributor adapter harness OR you can also just replace the plugs or repin and wire them yourself.

The OBD2 alternator is 4 wire so you will have to use your old 3 wire alternator for the P28 ECU.
The OBD1 alternator has the same plug as the OBD0 so it will plug in to your OBD1 jumper harness without a hassle.

The only sensor that needs help is the IAT. The Y8 has it installed in the air filter box, Z6 is on the intake manifold, and your stock engine is also on the manifold.
You will have to make a new home for your IAT - using the one off your stock intake will work fine OR you can order one (if you want a new part) for a Z6 just as well.
You have to fab something up.
Here's an image for an idea of how to mount it to an aftermarket intake arm

If you use the stock rubber arm, you can drill an undersized hole and just plug it in there. The rubber will hold it in just fine.
Xenocron makes a flange if you want to get fancy on an aftermarket arm or a charge pipe for boost applications.

Your stock engine has the coolant fan switch located on the back of the motor near the oil filter.

This location changes (sensor looks different too) to the thermostat housing on the Y8.

The OBD1 jumper harness will have this taken care of already. Just pointing out the difference.
