Upgrade Suspension? H&R Sports Spring Owners
whats up,
Are H&R springs a performance upgrade to the stock ITR suspension? i.e. Is the car more track worthy with stock springs or with these springs.
I read alot about spoon springs on this website and they seem to be the popular choice, but that drop seems uneven, thus not for me. Moving me to my next question. How does the h&r sport drop sit? If anything, I would want the front to sit ever so slighly lower than rear. If any h&r owners want to post pics that have not already been posted that would b great.
thanks for the input

The Sports run 1.5inches lower in front, and 1.25 lower in rear. I am currently running them on the stock shocks and I can hardly even tell the difference between those and the stock springs. They are great for a slightly lower stance and factory ride. heres a picture of the Sports on my car

I guess my REAL question here is....Do the enthusiasts on the board believe that h&r springs IMPROVE upon the stock suspension, or, do they think the springs actually detract from the car's handling and the car is better left stock. It seems as if most people say the ITR suspension is very well balanced from the factory and with out things such as coil overs your probably hurting the suspension. Someone enlighten me, either I buy H&R's now thinking I've made an improvement how ever small over stock, or I wait to get coilovers.
Thanks!

If there is any improvement, it is very slight. I would say that it DID NOT improve handling at all, and sometimes feels as if its slightly worse. The infamous lift throttle oversteer or whatever its called as kicked my *** a few times since installing them but it could be that Im just driving the car that much harder. Tough to say. I mainly got the springs just to make the car lower some until I can get a real coilover setup, and I dont really think they have negatively affected handling, I think its just me driving too hard and still learning the limits of the car.
EDIT: by the way, they are very inexpensive, I think I paid under $150 so just buy some and see for yourself. Try Modacar.com or Group Buy Center.

I'd say it was a welcome performance improvement, handling wise.
Sold mine to Mike K a while ago and he likes them, too.

I don't have an itr, but I've had hr sports/ kyb agx on my bastard ls/gsr hybrid for 60,000+ miles so far...I love em.
(I've got an itr rear sway...maybe that gives my post more validity

Unfortunatly I never got to try my stock suspension on the track. The H&R's were pretty bad, they were way too soft. Felt like the car was always off balance at the limit. Now that I have the coilover setup my car feels tight and balanced, and very predictable.
My advice= If you are going to track you car regularly save up the cash and do it right the first time. The H&R's will do for the street.
I had H&R Sports. Now I have coilovers (bilsteins and some high spring rates).

Zoinks. This concerns me, I was planning on getting a set of these. Did you have the R specific H&R Sports? Or was it just the regular Integra ones? I track my car fairly regularly and the one thing I'm worried about when changing the suspension is upsetting the balance. I guess I'll be staying stock for a while longer.

I've driven two HPDSs at vir...
once on stock suspension, and one on H&R sports with stock shocks.
for the second school. with the H&Rs, I took the stock shocks with me, because all the poop talked about the H&Rs on here had me scared, but...
the H&R's seemed to help quite a bit. The car seemed a lot less likely to understeer, and felt a lot more settled through the high speed turns at VIR (rollercoaster/hogpen, climbing esses). Also, the car was more confident under brakeing. I appeared to have enough suspension travel. I can not think of one thing the car did not do as well, if not better then stock.
the ride on the street left some to be desired, but I installed koni yellows this week, and I think the ride has returned to stock.
I have also autocrossed both setups, both in the dry and rain, and on the same surface, I would honestly say the H&Rs are worth 1 or 2 seconds on a 60second course, and are even more impressive in the wet. In the dry, sweepers I used to plow through, feel very balanced with a little but of higher speed understeer, which I sorta like.
I don't understand why everyone sweats the spoon and KGM springs over the H&Rs. the H&Rs rears(360f/320r) are stiffer then both the spoons (363f/307R) and the KGMs(368f/268r), but cost half as much. And If you've researched spring rates much, you have probibly found that most people in north america are finding the most success with stiffer rears.
If you are not going to competitively race your car, I don't think it makes much sense to spend over $1000 for coilovers you may or may not know how to set up and may or may not have the spring rates you want.

Can you direct me to more information regarding the bilstien coilovers? Are these an adjustable coil over kit or a true coilover? And are they ITR specific, or made for all integra models.
Thanks

I know I don't have a Type R, but I have a GSR... I just put H&R sports on my GSR about 1 month ago. The handling improved DRAMATICALLY! I'm sure most of it was just giving the car a lower center of gravity, and a high spring rate. It won't be as large of a difference on the R. BTW, I put kyb gr-2s in the rear. And left the fronts stock. The drop is perfect. The fronts on mine have no finger gap, and the rear have about 1 1/2. Definately worth the $150 in my opinion.
So get someone who has gone before you to set you straight. My suspension upgrades have hands down been the best mod on my car, and are well worth the money if you enjoy tracking your car. I had the advice of another R owner and a local performance car mechanic when I bought my stuff. Bilsteins with 400f/600r. The difference in handeling over the H&R Sports is AMAYZING.
I'm sure a good coilover set is considerably better then my H&Rs on the track. When I bought my H&Rs, I could have either bought coilovers, or bought H&Rs and had enough cash left ot go the the aug VIR carguys event. I had plenty of fun and drove plenty fast and had no complaints about the handling of the car. I don't think I would have had anymore fun with coilovers.
