97 Honda Accord Speedometer stopped working.
I have a 97 Honda Accord LX, 4 cyl. Yesterday my speedometer was going haywire and then went to 0, shortly after that my check engine light came on and shortly after that the car was studdering. What could the problem be and are they are connected or is it separate issues?
Check the codes....if you are lucky the VSS is bad.
Did the cruise control work before? If so try it when the car acts up - if it works you have bigger issues.....if it does not then again this points to the VSS.
Proper testing is needed.....don't guess.

I had the same problem in my 1994 Accord Ex. Did the car start stuttering as the speedo stopped working? If so the computer may be receiving a faulty signal from the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) and the VTEC will not work correctly. The computer tells the car to engage VTEC when the VSS says the vehicle is traveling more than 25 MPH. If you swap the VSS and the car runs smoothly, but the speedo doesn't work, then you will have to change the actual speedometer on the back of the cluster. Or you could change the entire cluster (not necessary.) I've had to do all of this on my '94 lx, swapped the VSS, car ran better, speedo didn't work anyways, swapped the speedo and everything was fine. As the post above says, check the codes first though, don't guess. It is usually the VSS though.
