Icon2 Honda newbie, starting project crx

Hey guys I've had a 01 civic LX for a while, never bothered to do anything to it as I know they are a terrible gen to work with. I've had my eyes on a crx for a while now and plan to buy one real soon and do a re-build seein as I have money too. But just wondering what's your input for a good starter engine? I want it to be dohc vtec tho. No sohc. So whats your opinion? B16? B18? B20? H22?

Lol not made of money :p I'm trying to be realistic here. Just want something that can make power, without spending a fortune.

And in response to "k20" I don't feel like dropping 5gs on an engine, or I'd just kswap my LX...
