My car has been stalling for the last week. The first time I stalled was when i was cruising in fourth gear and all of a sudden the engine shuts down. My lights and radio stays on but my rpm is at 0. I've also noticed that it happens once in the morning when i go to work and after i leave work. After it stalls once, I would bring my car to a complete stop turn my key all the way off and wait for a few seconds to fire the car back up. It fires up and then i would have no problems with it until i park my car for a long time.

Before the stalling, I would sometime not able to start my car because the fuel pump wasnt engaging. I would have to turn my ignition key all the way off wait a few minutes and turn my key to the on position again to hear the fuel pump engaging.

If you had this problem before or know what could be wrong with it please let me know. thanks

 

Could be your fuel pump has an intermitent problem........also need more info about the car

Does it just cut off as if you're turning the key off, or come to a jolting stop like if you let off the clutch while in first gear?

If it's losing fuel, then you'd feel the jolting stop, if it's electrical, then it will just cut off like a light switch.

 

Sounds like a bad igniter unit inside the distributor. Also test the coil.

 

There is no jerk when it stalls. I will check out the ignition coil tomorrow

 

i had a bad fuel pump in my 90 crx si, caused similar issues.

do you have a way to test it?

 

Wondering if the problem was fixed and if so how?
I have a 90 SI, had a tune up then the dizzy went bad (bearing) it corrected itself.
Changed the fuel filter and PCV valve and now all it does is stall and stall.
The pump turns on when in the on position. It comes back to life after 10 minutes, but it seems to shut down after 10 miles.
