Default New 2002 Civic Si Owner!!

Hey everybody haven't been on H-T for a while now but i just recently picked up a 2002 Honda Civic Si for a daily and wanted to ask a few questions.

The guy i brought it from was from a older guy that doesn't really mess cars but he said hes always pumped regular 87 octane gas into the car for the past 4years that hes had it, its ok to pump that? i just always thought vtec motors have to take premium 93 octane gas except for SOHC Vtec.

heres a few pics

one with my S2k

i never really looked into this model civics but i really do love how this car feels, the interior of the car feels really good to me.

Not as fast as some of the other usual K20 but its just enough for me to use for a daily commuter.

Great color choice, looks just like mine It's perfectly fine to pump 87 into this car, I pump 93 but that's just a personal choice. If you do your research there's actually 2 different kinds of i-vtec. One is for performance and the other is for fuel and power efficiency. The EP3 motor came with the second kind. If you ever swap it out for a RSX-S, 06+ civic si or TSX motor then you would need to pump premium.

Congrats!

The owner's manual spec's 87 octane.
No mpg or power advantages from running anything higher...

Great color!
They make for great daily drivers. Mine has been trucking along just find with over 200,000 miles on it with lots of life left.
On the gas topic, I put 87 in mine when I first got it mostly to try and save money to feed myself. But after the hurt of buying the car washed over I started putting 93 in to see what the gas millage was like. I saw a difference, I drove 71 miles to work one way so all highway I picked up at least 17 miles a tank on premium and it also did better for me in the city where I live now.

87 is perfectly fine for stock. I run 93, but only because I have the hondata reflash.

Thanks for all the info guys!

I think in New Orleans where I live, I only see one other EP3 hatch running around. Wish I would've looked into getting of these sooner. I'm loving the car so far driving it everyday.

Just one issue I'm having with the car, sometimes when I'm driving on the highway in 5th gear and after if I'm slowing down to put into a lower gear, it seems like it gets stuck in 5th and I have to kind of wiggle it out or force it out of 5th. Any idea what that could be??

If i had to gues it would be a worn out motor mount. I just got an ep3 myself and after a few track days noticed the same problem. I feel like it's a real weak point in the set up of the car and if this doesn't fix your problem you'll be better off. I had a gsr that had a broken motor mount and that was a symptom of the problem, it was very hard to shift.
