Default Problem with B16A Turbo and o2 Sensors

Hallo,

i have a B16A Turbo CRX and have some probs with my o2 Sensors. The B16A has 2 o2 Sensors and they are installes after the Turbo so they read the same values.

The ECU is Stock with another Chip with alternateing fuel and Ignition Tables. For extra fuel a have a 5. Injector with extra ECU.

the problem is that the stock ecu runs 2 Cylinders 20% Lean and the other two cyl. 20% rich... because of the o2 Sensor problem.

Can anyone help me and show me a cheep sollution for my problem. I dont want to buy a new Ecu or such expensive things.

Thanks
Bye
Malte.

You have to find a way to make the ecu run in open loop so that it doesn't look at the o2 sensor input. You could probably manipulate the output from the temperature sensor but vtec might not work because the ecu will think the motor is cold. I was in the same situation and I have decided to upgrade to 0bd-1, overall i think that is the best option. I think filetofit was talking about manipulating the throttle position sensor to put the ecu into open loop early, you should try to contact him and see if he has something.

Hallo,

maybe thats an idea ... i thought to install a ZDYNE ECU ... then i have only 1 O2 Sensor and everything is fine... but the thing cost me about 1200 USD

can you tell me how i contact fileofax? then i can send him an email to ask if he got something about the TPS Sensor fake ;-)

Thanks
Malte.

use the search function to find posts created by filetofit and then look in his profile for his email address. zdyne is also another good solution but isn't cheap as stated.

There's a solution. I won't search for you, but someone with a 90 Prelude Si (they have 2 o2 sensors) joined the signal wires to one 4 wire o2 sensor, and ran the heater wires to a 12v switched location with the other being a ground.

Search for it, it sounds like the best way to resolve that without a pretty big expense.

I think the best solution is to convert to obd1....those obd0 dual o2's really suck. Since i converted to obd1 the motor has been nothing but smooth.

I'm having the same problem
Car runs smooth for about 15mins then the CEL comes on causing the stock ecu to alter the fuel mixture.

yeah someone help with any solutions

Get your ECU chipped and disable closed loop. I'm not really sure why you would run -20% & +20% if you have both o2 sensors hooked up. You don't just have one o2 sensor spliced off into the two ECU inputs? 20% really isn't that much though considering the narrow band is probably only accurate within the 14 to 15 air fuel ratio range. Hmmm....

Part of the problem could be that o2 sensors can't supply that much current and if you splice one o2 sensor off into 2 ECU inputs it may tax the o2 sensor and make it do strange things. The other possibility is that the loss of heat after the exhaust goes through the turbo is such that it doesn't allow the o2 sensor to reach full voltage. But that's what heated o2 sensors are for, you are using heated o2 sensors right?

I'm not sure if I would put too much stock in a 20% difference on a narrowband o2 sensor. If both o2 sensors are installed in roughly the same place on the downpipe then one of the o2 sensors is just showing it's age more than likely.

You can amplify the TPS output so it trips into closed loop earlier I suppose.

I drove my car around for 2 days with just the downpipe, the O2 was still hooked up the cat but no exhaust was going to it. then I took the cat off and ran a straight pipe, now its causing the CEL to come on.

Hi,

i'am not 100% sure if iam running -20 and +20% but i have heard about problems when connecting two o2 sensors after the point where both can read the exhaust gases from the other cyl. pair.

hot can i find out 100% if something went wrong with the lambda control and the mixtures?

Thanx
Malte.
