Does polishing Si wheels make it look like chrome?
I hate chrome wheels but so many people say to polish Si wheels and they will look better. Im confused. Does polishing wheels make it look like chrome ? Cause they both look shiny to me.. Whats the difference?

I think chrome wheels are tacky!!! I polished a set of rims off my g35. It took a long time but the finished product was worth it. If you do polish the put a good coat of wax to keep the from oxidizing. Clear coating them will actually dull them so I recommend car wax

i think it's more of a subtle chrome, unless you go all out and do it to your very best ability and take your sweet old time

These were originally powdercoated and I polished them myself. I could get them to shine more but was enough for what I was wanting

well it kinda depends on how much polishing you want to do. I have done my share of it and if you want them to be extremely shiny (like chrome) you just have a lot of sanding to do and you need really fine paper. But you can polish them with a heavier grit and it will not be as shiny. either way i think polished looks great

I agree with the waxing comments. Polishing wheels will set them off and look good but proper maintenance will lead to a longer lasting finish. Polish wheel/lips will and can oxidize. When that happens it is a MAJOR pain to redo/correct.

You work back and forth because you will have imperfection to remove from casting of the wheel. I used all the way to 220 then stepped it up step by step until I got to 2000 grit. You will need a polishing wheel and polishing clay. Sears carries both. So does HF but they are more for smaller projects.
It won't be the grit you need to worry about because you will want to take that to 2000-2500 so you don't have any scratches. It is the amount of polishing that determains the shine

when i did my old si's i believe i went up to 2000 grit. i just started at like 600 grit and wetsanded until i made it up to 2000 grit. it took forever and i sanded so much that my fingers literally bled. but they came out pretty good i think. dont have any pics though
