Default Looking for Engine Swap Info...D15b7 into 91 CRX DX auto

Hey guys,

I have been searching the forums and the how-to threads, but still have not come up with a definitive answer for what I am trying to find.

I have a 1991 Honda CRX DX with a D15B2 engine and automatic tranny. The engine had a blown head gasket when I bought it, but I have since then replaced the head gasket, however the car will still not start.

With that in mind, I have found a 92 honda Civic motor D15B7 that a guy took out of his car to do a B-series swap, and it was running when he took it out.

What I can not find is weither or not the D15B7 is a direct drop in, or if it will need something else to make it run, like a different ECU, or Motor Mounts, or whatever.

Does anyone know where I can find this information? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1992 are all on different ECUs running OBD1.
So if you intended to run that motor OEM as if it were in the 92 chassis, then you would need to upgrade the ECU and make the necessary adjustments to your wiring harness. Auto tranny would have to go. The 92 auto ECU is not compatible with your auto tranny.

However, if you are just interested in getting your car drivable, you can strip the 92 motor down and put your old intake manifold, exhaust manifold, and distributor on it.
The fan switch wires will need to routed from your old location (next to the oil filter) to the new location (on the thermostat housing). Just a long block swap.

Curious why your stock engine won't start.
Have you done any troubleshooting?
Checked for fuel and compression?
Verified mechanical timing?

I bought the car a week after the guy blew the head gasket. The seller "supposedly" parked it right after he blew it, however I am honestly not sure about that. I bought it with the intention of doing a b-series swap, but the typical scenario is in play, and now money is tight. Plus.. I am not exactly a gear head. I bought and replaced the head gasket, fuel filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, and battery. I have spark, fuel and air to the engine. It turns over, but will not actually run. After we changed the head gasket the car ran for 10 seconds then died. During those 10 seconds, the engine was VERY shaky. I have not tested the compression, but I have a feeling that might be an issue. The timing was checked over and over and over again, and somehow is about 1/2 tooth to 1 tooth off. Even with the low compression and timing being off slightly... I assumed it would atleast run, but would need tuning. I honestly have no idea what the problem could be.
