Default 2011 Accord EX-L Road Noise

Ok, I have been to several forums and no-one seems to be able to help or want to help out. My concern is with the road noise while on the highway. I have been told that it is more than likely my tires, which are still the factory tires. Any experiences with other tires, that may lessen the road noise? I am greatful for any and all comments/suggestions/recommendations. Thanks.

Hondas aren't really known for having a lot of soundproofing. You want good soundproofing get a Lexus or Cadillac. (man, can't believe I just wrote that. lol) Different tires can make a lot of difference though. The tire shop should be able to tell you which tire would be quieter. My experience has been good with most Michelins.

You could also try laying down more soundproofing too.

The original Michelins were not very good on wet roads, so I switched to Bridgestone Turanza, and they had much more grip, but howl on the highway (certain roads). I had read many great reviews on the Michelin primacy MXV4, so I tried them, and while they don't eliminate the road noise, they are much better than the Bridgestones, and have good grip in the wet too. I would recommend them. I'm sure the only way to make this car as quiet as a Cadillac would be to add sound-proofing, but that doesn't sound easy or cheap. The car is quiet enough for me now.

Pretty much right on in what you said. Cars are getting heavier so, something has to go. However, I think Acura does a better job. That's why the TL is about 300-400lbs heavier.

If you live in a snow area your car might have the mud and snow rated dunlops that mine came with. These are the loudest tires I've ever heard. The fact at the gen 8 accords definitely have less soundproofing doesn't help. We replaced them with nokian all seasons that are still mud and snow rated but way quieter. We also have very aggressive nokian hak winter-only snow tires and even those are much quieter.

accordmetal, I definately don't live in a snow area. I am in south georgia, but I am interested in any tire that would help reduce the noise. Currently, I have the factory tire, michelin MXM4 (I read there was another version of the michelin MXVM4). I think I have that right. Either way, the ones we have now are noisy as hell. So anything would be an improvement. Thanks.

I have a 2008 Honda Accord. Do a search on what I did to help the road noise.

I tried Dynomat and that was a waste of money.

Installing a softer tire is the best bang for your buck. I put on General Altimax HP tires and it made a noticeable difference.

Personally I'm looking forward to dumping this car.

tradosaurus, you are the second person that has mentioned the General Altimax HP tires; however I thought I read something about their quality. I definately do want to try and quiet the car down, but I don't want to do it at the expense of safety. Are they good tires? Have you had any issues during wet weather? I know everyone will have their opinion, but usually if several are saying the same thing, then there is a pretty good chance it is the truth. I will research more on that tire tonight and see what I find out, but just wanted to see your results. Thanks for the advise.
