JDM D15B auto tranny on D16Y
Hello good morning Honda community. My 98 civic's transmission reached the end of it's days so I decided I would purchase a tranny from JDM engine zone here in N Jersey. They gave me a D15b auto tranny and from my extensive research on here an the internet, it says it will fit properly. Now the problem is that mechanic says it won't work properly because it doesn't have as many plugs as the existing tranny on the car does and the existing tranny doesn't have some sort of cable that the D15B does have. Could anyone give me any insight on this situation? I's rather be sure and fully aware of what's going on before I start pointing fingers at the mechanic or supplier. Thanks
It wont work. It lacks several sensors and solenoids the Y7 trans has and it uses a kickdown cable for passing gear (the Y7 is controlled electronically)
The only transmission that will 100% work and not throw transmission codes (important if you have to pass a state emissions test) is another D16Y7 transmission. D16Y8 will not work as it has a different 3rd gear ratio and will throw code P0715 after you drive it for a while.
