New to the world of Hondas and cars in general but was told this is a great place for info. I have myself a 1997 Honda Integra Type R with almost no work done to it. Carbon Fiber hood and no anti-lock brakes, none of this done to me but its all good. Alright well, what I want is to fix her up, bring her back to what she used to be before the years took toll, what are some parts that need replacing or touching up after nearly 15 years of age. What are some things I could do away with or added on to make her handle corners in the mountains as well as off the line speed. Her name is Bria and she is my pride and joy any advice at all would be much appreciated. Also if more info is needed let me know. Cheers

bushings will probably have some dry rot. brake and clutch master cylinder might go if they are oe and the car has been stored.

besides that change the fuel filter, wires, plugs, air filter, timing belt and enjoy the car

keep an eye on the oil level

every single one of those 96-97 engines burns oil to some degree. best one i have seen {my last one oddly} was a quart every 2500 miles-ish. worst was a quart every 800

I have noticed the bushings are all rotted out, one is completely gone. I've been saving up for a total bushing replacement kit. But I will definitely check out the cylinders for brake and clutch. My timing belt is due in December. And how much would the filter, wires, and plugs be? Do I want to go expensive or just good enough? My air filter was changed very recently so that should be good for a while.

 

wires you will use NGK HE64, plugs...you have two choices. copper plugs or irridium. if you go copper you'll use an NGK heat range 7, if you go irridium the single best plug i have tried on an R is the HKS M35i. NGK actually produces them but they are just a wonderful plug. very difficult to foul, great throttle response and an extremely long life. absolutely worth the $$ over standard ngk irridums. fuel filters are cheap. like 20-30, get a wix or oe honda.

also timing belts are 10 years regardless of mileage. if you have the oe belt change it before it breaks

 

Thanks for the heads up man, the timing belt is definitely a priority and needs to be done very very soon. Is there any information on how to do it? I know I have to lift the engine but past that there isn't much that I know. Where would I go to figure this all out?

 

as funny as it sounds. i have never done a belt with the engine in the car. i never was able to keep from blowing one up long enough to do so.

i don't see why you would have to lift the engine. pull the side mounts and you should have room.

there is a diy on here as well as in the book

those belts must be done exact in the tensioning process. do not deviate from what the book says
