I'm currently running the stock brake rotors and pads on my EK, I read the sticky about braking setups and found a line about drilled rotors being bad for street applications, the link they posted as to why they are bad for street applications is dead however. So my question is should I go with the drilled and slotted rotors and some ceramic pads or should I simply get a stock replacement rotor and some new pads and why?

I've read that drilled rotors are much cooler than non-drilled and slots make it grip better/remove dust and when stopping from 160mph this seems like it would be advantageous.

 

plain rotors (not drilled or slotted) are usually sufficient when used with a good quality pad. im guessing you are drag racing? so you really only need one good stop out of them at a time. you dont need to dissipate too much heat over and over like a road race car. drilled rotors are known to crack and have less surface area to create friction

 

I hadn't heard about them tending to crack, but with the heat I could see it happening with the cool points in the rotor. Should I still aim for slotted to reduce dust build-up and improve bite?

 

Just get a set of good rotors and pads. No need to go drilled/slotted, blank will do fine.


I know of several cars trapping 160+ that run off the shelf brakes parts.
A set of brembo blanks, and a good quality pad, like Hawk and you should be fine. Don't forget about brake fuild though.

I'm only trapping in the high 140's, but you don't need an overkill setup for these light cars.
Right now Im just running Brembo blanks with Hawk HPS, and a fluid flush when it was installed.

No complaints with this setup so far, I plan to run this into the 160's possibly.
