Icon2 2008 Accord Coupe V6 Low Oil Pressure Light

Hi guys,

Recently bought a used 2008 Accord Coupe, V6 with the 6-speed manual, and I've been seeing the low oil pressure light come on intermittently.

This only occurs when the car has sat overnight and the engine is cold. It'll come on a minute or so after starting to drive the car, and it goes away once the engine has warmed up. It's not every morning, but has happened enough times that I'm becoming concerned. The oil level is fine, and I've brought it into the dealer who couldn't find anything wrong. They replaced the aftermarket oil filter with a Honda one, but the light still comes on. There is no change in the sound of the engine or the way the car drives when the light is on.

Anyone able to offer any advice?

An dents in the oil pan? Does the oil look ok to the eye? Besides those it could be the oil pressure switch, relief valve, oil screen, oil pump, or excessive clearance in the engine some where. Which leads to the question- is it smoking? If it is, is it bluish smoke?

No smoke coming out of the back, it's not burning oil at all. I've checked it right when the light comes on, as well as after driving it for a bit, and the oil level never changes - sits at full the entire time.

I'll admit that I don't know much about cars, so I've only been able to check the oil pan, and that looks okay. Like I said, the dealer took a look over it and couldn't find anything wrong, so they're pretty stumped as well.

Ask them specifically what they checked and see if they say any of the things I just told you about. They should have at least checked the pressure switch, relief valve, and maybe the oil screen (all you have to do is remove the oil pan to check). You have to remove quite a bit of stuff to check the other items. Especially excessive clearance, which could mean taking the whole engine apart.

Next time you're near Autozone have them check for codes (it's free). Post up the specific codes if you get any.

If the dealership couldn't figure out, they should have contacted Honda Tech-Line.
I wish I could help, but I never heard of this before. Keep us updated

This sounds like more of an electrical problem to me. The oil pressure in a cold engine is much higher than a warm engine.

If something was preventing oil to be easily sucked up through the pickup at cold starts, you would hear a change in the engine's sound when the light finally goes off. It would be fairly subtle though as long as you don't rev the engine much. Does it really take a full minute, or were you exaggerating?
